I always research small defence. The sandbags in the capture zones will give the best indication of where the enemy will attack from. But it's not perfect and like you I've been caught a few times with everything setup in the wrong place.
Smile and be thankful it's just and game and you're not really about to die because you guessed wrong
I don't know of any mod that completely fixes the issue. Mods can only modify the game that has been provided. This is like a new feature that I assume would need to be coded into the game.
Some mods use to track all those incoming arrows for you but I believe they are out of date and no longer work. Even so they only indicated where the enemy unit spawned on the map.
Not a mod but using recon/scout/Aufklarer or the Officer can help.
Those units have a wider field of view and have a longer viewing range.
Position them hidden in a bush and set them to "Hold Fire". They are there to observe and report not engage.
Sometimes the enemy will find them and they will die
The binoculars on the officer to see out to 200 metres so set him up to watch a spot on an inbound road.
None of this helps you move the trench you dug in the wrong place or the minefield that isn't where it needs to be but it's about all there is.
You could start a new campaign and turn Fog of War off but that seems to create issues where units don't shoot at enemies they should engage. I haven't personally verified this it's just something I read on the forums.
Only if you have the mini-map visible and have it expanded to a decent size.
I think new players struggle with this.
One arrow appear as one enemy units spawns onto the map. The arrow stays for about 3 seconds and then disappears.
When multiple units spawn at pretty much the same time and in different places on the map it can be difficult to remember them all.
It's very easy to miss an arrow or two if you are busy managing your units and setting up defences.
The enemy usually but not always moves directly towards a capture zone but terrain and roads can alter their path so even when you do know where the arrow was it may not be overly helpful.
I think it might be helpful for the difficulty setting to be tied into how long the arrow is visible for. So on easy the arrows stay on t he map for 10 seconds. On normal for 8 seconds. This gives a newer player more time to actually notice the arrow.
