How does this game compare to steel division sd2
As per the title, wondering if anyone has played SD2 and how this game compares to it?

I am needing a break from SD2 and this game might still scratch my WW2 killing Nazis itch

Very different - if you wanna a change then this is your game.

There is more focus on micro control of unit in this compared to Steel Division. I like both games personally, but for different reasons. If grand strategy is your interest I would say steel division is more focused on that.

Do you control tanks, artillery, planes?

planes are a difficult matter they are kinda hard to control, but other than that you can control everything else easily.

Steel Division 2 is more strategy on a big map whereas GoH Ostfront allows you to enjoy small scale tactical action up close and the unit models are better looking than in SD2. It's good enough to scratch my WW2 love to play the Nazis itch.

comparing this to sd2 is quite hard as albeit same theme, different median

It's a hard comparison, this is more geared around roughly company sized units in action where Steel Division is a much larger scale of war. Both are really good games doing different things.

SD2 is 'icon-simulator', whereas this game is more tactical and up-close so you can actually see the action. This one feels a lot more realistic than the SD games too (i.e. speed of units, physics, etc). The graphics and sound are also better in GoH. Just get the bundle when it's on sale, which is all the time.

and it's such a shame, too. Steel Division 1 & 2, the environmental assets, textures etc. look really gorgeous zoomed in close seeing all the detail, it's such a nice engine.... yet you never actually see any of it's beauty because you're constantly zoomed out. Whilst GoH isn't ugly by any stretch, it's actually a very pretty game, it's definitely showing it's age, visually, in terms of the underlying engine compared to SD 1 & 2. But at least you get to see the close up detail in GoH lol.
This game is far better than SD2 in my opinion.
