The issue is that in order facilitate coop play for skirmish games all skirmish and conquest games are actually multiplayer games,
Basically a PVE skirsmish match is the same as a PVP match.
And the game wasnt designed for having speed control in multiplayer.
Reason most likely being that speed controls with multiple players is a bad idea in general since you cant run a game at multiple speeds at once. And opening up for every players changing speed at will has its own issues. Not to mentioned the possibility of performance issues.
for all we know they could be rewriting as we speak but I would not count on it.
it's a shame (for me) as I can't get on with the MP style of the skirmish game but I really miss the old Dynamic Campaign Generator.
I can understand why they have gone forward with the route they have but its not for me.
luckily there's enough other stuff to do but a DCG more inline with the old one (even if as an external app) would be excellent.
This is true. It pains me to say it but i have abandoned this game because of this extremely bad design decision (this and a few others). They really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up on this one. I´m a tactical player and hate to play this in real time, i´ve always played mow games using pause and speed control and i cant do this in this game, sadly.
Doesnt normal SP and modded maps/mission not appeal to you?
or is the "dynamic campaign" they key thing for you? If so, may I ask why?
Purely out of interest, as im also entirely an SP player and just dont *click* with the pseudo SP mode but i *do* like the "normal" SP stuff.
The included SP missions are lackluster and get old quickly. The Dynamic Campaign is pretty repetitive and i hate the fixed waves mechanic. Not to mention the braindead AI. All i really wanted is a proper traditional skirmish mode with decent AI and match customization. Havent checked the mods though.
Well the game isn't for everyone. Hope you find something that scratches that itch you didnt find here.
I would mention that any major change to the AI at this stage of development is highly unlikely. Also Id like to mention that the chance of finding very advanced AI in any real time strategy game is in general low. But the whole AI in games is its own subject.
As a player that never plays multiplayer in this game and the previous titles I can add that if history is anything to go by the game really shines for my kind of gameplay in single player missions made by the community. They usually start coming out when the game reaches a more stable state. Meaning when the patches become less frequent so they dont have to patch all their mods and maps to often.
So Id recommend coming back in a while and check the steamworkshop.
there's great AS2 style map packs as well as other tweaks and bits and bobs.
there's also some "meh" stuff.
but there's hours of entertainment value in there.
however, what suits me may not float your boat, so I won't suggest any particular mod, rather go peek (don't just go for the "popular" mods imho)
just like all the previous games in the series, the SP *can* be a bit hit or miss and other aspects can rankle but, to me, the experience since MoW has always been about the platform rather than the stock game.
I think the devs have done the best they can with what they've had to work with and the limits put upon them.
but I also really feel a mod here or there can really improve things.
I´ll check out the mods in a few months, i used to love sir hinkels missions in mowAs2 and Terminator mod. As for AI, it COULD be decent. SD2 is a good exemple of that.
