Is this the Best game ever ?
So I'm an amateur historian ( all periods not just WWII ) and an Avid Gamer ( not very good ) Football Manager , and the original Company of heroes among my favourites , and the early Total war games . Spent a lot of Money on Steel Division last year , but can't get on with it , and I'm absolutely dreadful , it seems too bloody hard , I really liked the level of detail in the IL Sturmovick games , the fact there 27 variants of the BF 109 . The paradox EU4 and CK3 should be right up my street , but too much to do , over complex , probably spent lots of £'s on DLC , but not really satisfying.

So then i see a video for this , and bought it on the day of release , never completed the tutorial , but absolutely love it. The graphics and sound are superb , the level of detail is amazing , so much thought has gone into this , totally immersive , never played online games before , but a couple of nights ago played a 2 hour epic that was just fantastic . Ok it has its flaws , The Tanks not sticking to roads , and driving through trees .

It would be interesting to get a military tactical expert to give their opinion as to how realistic this is , personally i think its really close , would eventually like to pit ,British , and Us units against the Wermacht .

But never have i been moved enough to write a review like this before ,, a big well done to the developers , and apologies to anyone that has me on their team online , i am pretty useless , but improving

I have been working a lot, so not much time to play... but this was worth 5 years of waiting. First "beta" testing I've ever done. This game will only get better.
I certainly wouldn't call the game a realistic simulation of actual warfare.

in terms of RTS games, I'd say it has a leaning towards a historical setting and some of the equipment/vehicles used.

I'm not knocking the game, but it's not an accurate simulation of warfare in the real world nor is it the best game ever.

it *is* one of my favourite games though and that's enough.

Somewhere in the area of "not really" and "not at all", you'd be better off playing a WW2 Combat-mission or Graviteam game for something closer to realism. This is very much a rts game of ordering disorganised and nonsensical groups of units around tiny areas to complete gamey objectives with some realistic icing on top.
But it's the mash up of genres and the emergent sandbox/ cinematic nature of this game and it's predecessors (all the way back to the first) that gives a unique game experience that's really engaging.

No, its full of bugs even with a public beta. And its just a arty spam game. Its so overpowered and accurate, it ♥♥♥♥♥ every other gameplay. King Tiger? Look at me, oneshot with first shot. Pushing infantry? Look at my 76 and 122 mm mortar while you fight

I think this is over-simplifying Gates Of Hell a bit too much. I've fought against highly organized players and messy ones, it all depends on the users skill. Single player missions are well done and offer realistic scenarios and the player can even make his own using the editor. The title's focus is centered around squad size combat, not divisional such as steel division/Graviteam; in this regard, I think GOH performs quite well!
