Start-up error: Sound Drivers not compatible
So I got this, it says "Your Sound driver is not compatible (or another software is blocking audio). Try updating it and verify that the audio output is well configured (and connected). In case of doubt, feel free" and it cuts off there. I checked that mine were updated, and they're as up to date as possible. I'm not sure how to check if anything is blocking audio, but nothing should be, and I'm using a laptop, so there's no way the audio SHOULDN'T not be connected.
What do I do? (And, Explain like I'm five, if there's a lot of technobabble involved, if you could.) Many thanks in advance, and Happy holidays!

EDIT: So I did a little more looking (like from .01% effort to a whopping 2% more effort) and this is apparently a reoccuring issue for many. Sorry If I'm the 20th post on this topic or such, it's just this looks like a cool game.
EDIT 2: So in the rare occasion, for some odd reason, that I Didn't have openAL like the storepage suggests, I got it and installed it again. Didn't take long, so I probably had it. Restarted and everything. Still not working.

Hello,

It can be due to another software having higher priority on the sound driver (e.g. audio recording software, streaming software, messenging like skype, etc.), or software which creates "sound bridges" for recording or applying sound effects to your computer. Try closing all possible software which may use sound output / recording.

Another thing that may help:
- right clik on the volume indicator of your Windows (lower left of the screen)
- click on "output devices"
- make sure that your PC speakers are set to default (or click on them and click on default)

This helps the game to initialize the correct sound output.

Note that OpenAL is installed with the game and doesn't need to be reinstalled.

If things still doesn't work, please share your laptop brand and model.

Thank you for the response, and I apologize if I'm conveying a rushed, annoying tone.
For the first part, there are no other apps open, save for Battle.net, but that doesn't take a higher priority on the sound driver (Unless they're doing something stupid, which wouldn't be likely). My PC Speakers are set to default, and I checked using the method you listed.
My laptop is a HP Pavillion G7.

EDIT: Ignore the other part that was here, it's too confusing. It's a HP Pavillion G7.

I am sad to say, that I'm going to request a refund, for now. Perhaps you can fix this error sometime in the future, or something else happens that makes me able to play this game, and then I'll buy it again, but for now, time is running out for the steam sale (and you've been silent for 4 days), and I'd rather spend my money somewhere else. Thank you for the help, though.

Unfortunately, this problem is most likely linked to your computer and not the game, and I am totally unable to assist you more than this. I do understand your decision, that's what refund requests are for.

Note that we are normal beings, with holidays and family meetings.

Wishing you the best with the steam sale.

Again, I have been rude, and I duly apologize for that, if that's enough, which I highly doubt it is. I wish you and yours all happy holidays, and a happy new year.

Hello,

Please verify that your speakers are set as the default playback device of your computer:
- right clik on the volume indicator of your Windows (lower left of the screen)
- click on "playback devices"
- make sure that your PC speakers are set to default (or click on them and click on "set default")

I'm still trying to comprehend this problem but since I'm unable to reproduce this issue, progress are very slow.

I found a possible solution, I need to do some more testing tomorrow and I'll come back to you.
MrHelmut Jan 3, 2017 @ 3:07am
Here's a possible fix:

- download this zip file: http://neurovoider.com/OpenAL-Soft_Windows_Binaries.zip
- extract it as-is in your NeuroVoider install folder (where the .exe is)
- override any existing files
- try running the game

Let me know if it works. If it does, we will patch the game to make these new files standard.

If it doesn't... Well, we have no other clue and the problem is most likely related to a corrupted Windows installation.

This absolutely does not fix the problem. Sad for me because I really wanted to play that game. But you should've made it playable for everyone. Also try to test your modifications yourselves instead of asking players (who actually can't even play) to do the thing, please, that is the least you can do.
For now it's a refund for me too. And don't play the card of "it's your computer, corrupted windows", my steam library contains 50 games that perfectly run on my laptop and I have never had any similar problem in the past.
Looking forward to play this game one day.

- Someone mad that he cannot play that awesome-looking game yet
