Whoever told you that you were safe in Arena from perma-death was very wrong. Sorry. :(
It's like losing a hardcore character if you go on a PvP mode, would be stupid as well.
Btw, no need to bump a one-hour thread I guess.
Then there's this mode when you fight until you die. Whoops! HC char? To bad, screw you.
It's not their first title. It blows my mind it works that way....
I've sent an email to their support. If there is no solution to this I'm taking a long break- at least game will be patched when I decide to go back. And there's new build of Grim Dawn released today.
But yes, NeoCore seems to forget to check a few things here and there...
Even though as frustrating as that can be, I'd suggest a few less rage and more patience.
I'd warn that the game is in no shape for hardcore characters, and you'd end up being one-shotted anyday prior to finishing the campaign, so no need to complain like that.
I actually think hardcore is just suited for people who don't really care about their character, to prevent this kind of thing.
Game is too good to hate it, but man- so many hours wasted for nothing.
But thats really bad design, you could loose your Char from a simple misclick, as you just have to accidentally press enter and that was it, you cant exit without dying so you are screwed, that cant be right.
Anyway, I also agree this thing you reported must be a bug, so let's hope they catch and fix it. This way, your character's death wouldn't be meaningless!
Besides, I'd suggest creating a new character (softcore), and playing on Casual, at least until you reach that point where you stopped. From my experience, a Casual play can be up to 60% faster, specially when you already know the way.
But it's up to you, of course!
True, you should be allowed to die without losing the character there, but I've never heard any official word that characters were safe there.
Best bet would be to report it on Mantis.
For what it's worth, sorry you lost all that work.
You can always leave between waves I think. But I would stay away from the arena as hc character because there is no reward for you.
Leave arena early = no reward.
Get killed = no reward/permadeath.
"I saw one topic where players said death in Arena is safe for HC characters."
That was a troll post, I fell for that one too.
It's pretty sad, man. But in online games (or in the case of Final Cut - in online mode) there's important process when you play HC - you constantly build-up better and better items for different levels, to help for you next characters, when the current dies. You should always have in mind that you character may die.
And if you want to manage your save-files yourself - you should play offline. That way the saves are stored locally. But it comes with respective drawbacks - you cannot progress in leaderboards with your offline-characters, you cannot participate in online events and you cannot play multiplayer with another online-characters.
