Are you playing a modded game or unmodded?

If youre playing unmodded, the only decent build is getting shield block, waiting for full retaliation points, and then using hurricane assault. The damage bonus applies for the full duration of hurricane assault so you get like +1300% damage until you stop casting it. Put the rest of your points in your defensive auras because the rest are worthless.

With katarina the best build is to stack ethereality and max her proc skills. That build ends up out damaging and out performing every other build by a landslide.

If you're playing modded, well, there's a lot of options.

I cannot aggree with this.

I used this build until I reached lvl 100 where she just gets 1hit in so many situations, on inhuman difficulties even common enemies 1hit her.

There are no epic gear parts for Katarina (or I just did not find any) and she does not even have half my defensive stats.

You have 40% chance for 5 sec invulnerability but that's just not enough to keep her alive. I also reduced respawn cd by 50%.

Sentinel and permanent ghost form is much better imo.

Im lvl 100 protector with about 100 Glorypoints, godlike items and setitems. Im playing the unmodded game and i could recommend going for Cyclone, invurnability, charge and battlecry. Also get the tentacle skill before the battlecry to pull your creatures close together.

So 1. charge the mobs 2. press the pull in 3. press spacebar for combowombo and then 4. start cycloning everything to death.

Make sure you stack critical hit and damage. the rest of your points etc put it into health/defence. Ignore Fortified mind and such.

Sorry for not explaining this with exact correct names of every skill etc, but i assume you will run something that is closer to what you actually like running!
Protectors have issues win regular game with progressing past hard, unless you have 5 godlike items and a friend. but i do faceroll casual/normal with 15k hp, 11k armor and 3.1k to phys/poision/elemental which translate to 70%)

The 20% bonuses to some of your stats are paltry in comparison to what comes out to about 15% instant kill chance, 30% freeze chance, Aoe vulenerability and slow, wisps, and her dps. With her fully specced into ethereality she had her invulnerability up permanently before mobs could reach her.

Also, there are a ton of Set and Epic items for her in the game files, but they can't drop because there's an issue in their drop system. I've added them to the drop tables in my mod.

That's pretty much what my current build is. I'm also running as a Protector (hoping to max my glory level really soon while waiting for major updates). I'd suggest to stack your Block Pool as it greatly increases your damage when maxed. Sadly, the only downside from being a protector with hurricane build is your mana pool as the Hurricane increases Mana/sec. Add up Mana drains and you'll be a sitting duck unless you invest a few points to non-mana skills such as Smashing Blow to kill them off.

I was thinking about going into a spin to win build. But as people already said, Mana is an issue. And I don´t know if the mana leech aura is good enough to sustain the cost.

If you got the Epic essence that converts damage taken into mana in act 1, then using that will give you infinite mana while spinning. If you didn't, mana on hit mods are the way to go, although they're significantly reduced on whirlwind. My vanilla protector could run whirlwind until enough monsters died that he couldnt get mana from them anymore, usually around 16-20 seconds it would peter out.

? Is this a secret content? I can´t recall where that essence could be.

Yeah, you have to talk to the drunk guy in Markovna, then go to the Gallowsbog and look for the dead goat. It's probably the best essence in the game because it scales so well into the end game and is just op.

Ahh, that item. Yes, I already found it every playtrough, but I didn´t know it was a special something.
