Stuck on "Downloading Character"

All my other characters load up correctly and i can play with them but my main character that i have gotten pretty far in is stuck on " Downloading Character " and wont let me continue story.

Any solutions?

Start one of the other characters, play around with it for a few minutes, then exit the game in the correct fashion by using the Exit button on the character select screen. Restart the game then log back into your account.

These slow-downs and hangs for character downloads happen from time to time, usually just restarting the game 'fixes' the problem.

Thank you - i tried that but it didnt work. Still stuck on "Downloading character". Its getting really frustrating- anyone else have had this happen? any suggestions would be appreciated.

Btw- I am playing offline mode.

ooh... if you're seeing that in Offline mode, it's a different ball of wax entirely. Usually if the game can't retrieve Offline Mode characters, then that means the character's save file is corrupted in some way. Crap. I haven't run into that issue since the early days of Beta testing and we usually ended up having to discard the character or send it to Megapull for fixing. :(

First thing you can try is to use Steam to Verify the local files cache. That sometimes solves the problems, but not often. Beyond that, if you navigate to the NeocoreGames folder in your Documents folder, then there is a back-up of all your *.sav files in the Back-ups folder there. You might be able to fix the issue by deleting the original *sav file for the character and copy&pasting the file from the Back-up folder to the main folder. Make certain you DO NOT delete anything from the Back-ups folder! Just copy&paste from that folder.

EDIT: here the common Windows navigation for the back-up files:

C:\Users\<your computer user name here>\Documents\NeocoreGames\Van Helsing Final Cut\SaveGame\Default\backup

NOTE: there is an unfortunate chance than none of these solutions will work if you're using modified files, even the Enhanced Mod which is normally quite reliable. If you are using the Mod, you'll have to ask one of the mod authors, either A Cat or ILL to provide tech support.

The back up save file trick worked!!! thank you very much

I just had this issue with an online character. The game froze last night at the end of chapter so I force quit. Log in today to get the downloading for-seemingly-ever. I verified the files, to no avail. I was getting tiref of opening and closing the game so I clicked the CREDITS button and watched for a minute. Pressed Escape and bam! Character ready to play.
