I also recommend the game "Shadows: Awakening" as another good story-driven ARPG which has a similar type of sense of humor like Van Helsing has. It's not Steampunk though.
Ive had Shadows in my wishlist, will check it out in a sale.
It depends on whether or not you appreciate the deadpan approach as to whether you'll be into it. It doesn't have quite the same quippy dynamics as VH, but there's definitely a good deal of that dynamic between VH and Kat going on between the protagonist of Inquisitor and Van Wynter, the captain of your ship.
