Best DPS I'd guess would be the Bounty Hunter - he's also closest to the original Hunter class, minus the ability to use swords and melee. Biggest design error they made with VH3 imho, I loved the flexible Hunter class.
If you want something glass cannon-y, I'd guess you should go with the Elementalist, since he deals a good amount of damage but isn't as slippery as the BH. The Phlogistoneer purely focused on Nuking is pretty fun too, but I can't help but notice how I'm freely jumping between characters, whenever I grow tired of one. Explains why I have 300+ hours logged by now, without any character at level 100 yet.
Excited to try this. Have logged thousands of hours in Diablo II and III. Eager to play something different for awhile.
