Wow, the advanced chambers are horrible
There is no thinking involved, only your struggle with the bad controls. It's mind boggling why Valve released these, they are a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ disgrace to Portal.

Okay, Chamber 16 is where I quit, this is worse than horrible. Someone contact the Portal Stories: Mel devs to make these actually "advanced" instead of this bs.

think with portals, and use the cubes to block turrets' line of fire, the advanced chambers aren't supposed to be a piece of cake

Solving them wasn't the problem, executing the solution was what drove me crazy. I got through all 6 but never again.

The chamber with the caged off turrets is a great example on why are these the worst levels ever created by Valve (Xen included): blocking a turret's line of sight with the cubes is so random and is so full of trial and error that ultimately I resorted to save scumming... in a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ puzzle game. Portal 1 was always easy as hell, it's basically a puzzle game for braindead people when it comes to the amount of logic you need to solve a test chamber so with adding these bonus advanced puzzles Valve had a chance to make something that is not just a walk in the park and what did they do instead? They made them more challenging not by thinking up harder solutions, oh no, instead they focused it around "skill" like it was a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ arena shooter.

you can get through 16 without using many cubes, just the exit area with the button is the problem, everything else you can use portals to get past

also, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dD184EICOvI&list=PL_QtSMEGimbzkxWejMnfk2XTzYuDcgzUE

but he is just most-likely extra braindead or full on retarded, most-likely both plus being mentally and physically inable to do anything at all

Exactly.

God, why did he play the game in DX8 in 2014? That's 1080p there, it's obvious that he has at least a DX 11 GPU. Anyway I can't decide if he's really that stupid or it's just the case of "acting stupid for the views", lots of people on Youtube do the latter.

I think he's a troll, but his constant struggle to look like a cool utuber makes him look real
they're called "advanced" for a reason. you solve it with something more than just portals, skill.

Don't necro threads please.
Overall, Portal puzzles are less difficult to solve and more to execute, including more timed elements and dangerous test elements such as energy pellets.

Portal 2 puzzles are more focused on being hard to solve but easy to execute.

P1 advanced chambers don't complicate the solving (like Mel does), they just complicate the execution with more drastic measures such as filling the floor with goo and caging turrets.

So, you're right- P1 advanced chambers are a bit annoying.
I don't remember anything in Portal 2 being harder to solve than Portal 1. If anything, my memory is being disappointed by how easy everything was. Heck, they literally highlighted specific areas where you could use your Portal gun and covered the rest of the maps in magic dust, that's how afraid they were of anybody getting stuck.

I sort of agree on the advanced chambers in P1 though. I just recently fired up the game again, and while I did complete them all, I would have to say they were more frustrating than providing any extra challenge. It was pretty clear what needed to be done most of the time, but executing the required manoeuvre often took a lot of trial and error. And the one with the invulnerable turrets just felt like the developers trolling.

Edit: This thread is 9 years old, LOL. Let it die...

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
