Why can't I change the language in the main game menu?

Portal has no Ukranian language files.
Audio is only available in these five languages:
English, German, French, Spanish, & Russian.

To change the audio (spoken) language:
Steam Library > Portal (right-click) > Properties > Language >
Select the language you wish to play this game in

Steam must be in Online mode, and the new audio files will be downloaded.


Subtitles and the game menus use the same text language as the Steam interface:
Steam > Settings > Interface > Select the language you wish Steam to use

The "closed caption language" (for subtitles) can be set differently to the game user interface, by setting the cc_lang parameter using the developer console. For example:
cc_lang russian
cc_lang english
cc_lang ""
The third example sets it back to "default", so that the subtitles will use the same language as the interface.
