I'll leave it here in case someone has the issue in the future.
Turns out the issue is OneDrive. It creates its own MyDocuments folder.
Borderlands 3 ends up getting created there instead of locally, and the files get locked.
so every time you run the game it pulls the save files from OneDrive, and they never get overwritten with the information so you never get any progress.
You need to unlink your PC from onedrive, move the documents folder contents to the local My Documents, and delete the saves folder in borderland 3. You might have to grant special permission to the files to do that mine couldn't be deleted until i did that.
Agreed, but it was all automatically done that way by default on windows 11.
I didn't even realize there was a OneDrive "My Documents" until this happened.
I don't even have one drive downloaded and installed on my PC, but it still created that folder and set it as default.
I think Win10 does not have OneDrive as deeply integrated in Win11, but then again, my old gaming PC's Win10 install is a few years old (and I try to keep it working clean, lean n mean) - I've removed all the junk apps, including OneDrive).
It may also be because I've ardently shunned M$'s gambit for its Office 365 ("cloud subscription to empty your pockets") on every PC I own.
I instead use a standalone Office 2021, and I've disabled OneDrive in it.
I recommend not to use OneDrive for any gaming.
I would also suggest you lock your own comment above as the chosen answer for your own question, as you managed to solve your problem (Kudos! And thanks for sharing the solution here so others facing same Win11/OneDrive dilemma for save game issue, can spot this thread if they search the forum).
Thanks mate I appreciate it. I would, but unfortunately it wont let you lock your own answer :)
Glad you got it resolved. Hope your answer helps others facing same sudden issue.
Use my above comment then. I merely quoted your answer. :-)
