Are Projected Shields Good For Anything?
The shields that project a shield wall forward when you crouch seem objectively bad from my experience with it. I was wondering if it had any good uses.

For a long time I was using the shield from the doctor quest because it has the +5% HP regen on it, even passing up shields with much better stats all around. I hate needing to search for hp pickups and/or having lower than max HP. (excluding the 20% reserved portion from 1 rank of thin red line)

Then I found one in Crazy Earl's eridium vending machine that was amazeballs on max shields, shield regen, and had an annoint that nova's several thousand damage whenever I enter/exit Iron Bear!

It also has the "feature" of projecting a shield wall every time I crouch.
It seems like the only thing this does is guarantee I "get hit" and drain my shields whenever I duck behind cover to reload, because it projects the shield wall in front of the cover and is so big that the 80% of shots would have missed now hit me. And for some reason some hits drain my HP even though I still have shields, I'm guessing it has to do with some damage type... unless the shield projection removes the shield from you and I'm being hit from the side.

Anyway, I was wondering if there was any instances/situations where these shields are useful? Only thing I can think of is your ally's shield breaks you can crouch and cover them for a few seconds until they regen theirs. Generally there's more than enough environment cover to hide behind though.

Projected shields protect from DoTs, provided they are blocking the attack which would inflict said DoT. Also, the projected shield has a damage reduction bonus, so if all the attacks are coming from one direction, it might last longer.

That said, it makes you unable to defend from the sides/behind, and the shield is easier to hit, so will take more damage. So unless the projection has a worthwhile special effect, like the firewall, they just aren't worth it.
