Trevanator Troubles
The gun's card says 2 ammo per shot, but it actually uses 5 ammo per shot. I'm having trouble understanding that and want to learn. I'm a level 72 FL4K using the Fade Away 3-shot build, and it's a Mayhem 10 Trevanator that does 17855 x 6 damage. I like it a lot, except for that ammo drain. Anyone?

The Trevonator shoots in 3 round burst, each shot consumes ammo, so if your variant is a x2, it will consume 3x2=6 ammo per trigger pull.

Thank you. I guess the 3-round burst was obvious, though it's not mentioned on the card and I was totally overlooking it. However, while this is definitely part of the answer, do note that the original variant is x6, so this logic would yield 3 x 6 = 18 ammo per trigger pull; but it uses 5. Also, I thought pellet count (x6) was a separate mechanic from ammo usage, so I'm still confused.

The original version is a x3, it says x6 on your card because it's a x2 variant so the weapon card already accounts for the double projectiles, and usually x2 variant of a weapon also consumes more ammo to balance it out. Since you're playing a fade away FL4K I'm going to assume that you are using the skill "Leave no Trace", if that's the case, this skill is the reason for the discrepancy in the ammo consumption as it has a chance to add ammo to your magazine when you score critical hits.

What do you mean by "original version"? And yes, I have Leave no Trace maxed. That's a 36% chance to add 1 ammo per critical hit scored ,, is that per trigger pull or per pellet?

As far as I know, Leave no Trace can proc with every projectile that scores a critical hit. What I mean is that by default, the Trevonator comes with a x3 on its damage card (which correspond to the number of projectiles shot by trigger pull, so since the Trevonator shoots in a 3 round burst, it checks out), however the Trevonator can drop with a grip that doubles the number of projectiles, that's the x2 variant (and once again, since the Trevonator shoots in a 3 round burst, if each of the rounds is doubled, you end up with 3x2=6 projectiles per trigger pull, the math checks out). Generally speaking, weapon parts that double the number of projectiles also add to the ammo consumption of the weapon.
