Now, it's actually the blue skill tree, where the focus is on skills that improve Iron Bear's fuel efficiency and Cooldown, to let you stay in Iron Bear form longer. That's the main limitation leveling up, as Iron Bear is so tough his biggest problem isn't enemy damage, it's actually the limited duration that you can stay in him (due to fuel consumption).
I mention this in the spirit of being helpful as just imho I thought the red and green trees were more for the later levels. Maybe because I mainly play solo, so the general advice you've seen is probably valid, but I focused on extending Iron Bear time.
If you do find problems with survivability, the 1 point in the red tree's Security Bear by itself provides a lot more durability. So you might focus on the blue tree, then just dip that 1 point in red when you find yourself struggling while leveling. By the time you reach the end of the "story" in Normal difficulty, you'll probably be very comfortable customising your own build based on your gear, and it's a lot of fun.
Just a final reminder, in case you need it - you can easily and cheaply re-spec your skill trees at the appearance changing stations in-game. It's a variable cost of iirc 10% of your cash on hand, so it's not like other leveling systems where a character's build is set in stone. So you might want to try this build and if it doesn't work out, go back to what you had, as it's quite convenient to do.
But OMG once she gets enough points in her skill tree, watch out.
Iron Bear ends up being so crazy powerfull she can own bosses on M10 without any special gear or help. Moze ended up being my favourite character to play.
Here are is a quick collection of my Moze razing M10 bosses without special gear just Iron Bear.
