Good Middle distance Vault Hunter for Solo?
Hi folks

I'm just looking for basic info (not detailed explanations of min max trees etc.) I can find all that out as I go.

Played Maya solo in BL2 last year had a great time, she was the perfect mix for me. I started with Axton but switched to her soon after.

I admit I sniped quite a bit to whittle stuff down but was mainly fighting middle distance with submachine guns using the Cataclysm and Harmony trees with her blast effects.

I rarely used pistols or assault rifles at all.

Looking for a similar experience in 3. Not interested in dedicated sniper or high output melee builds for now.

Based on what I've said any suitable character recommendations before I get under way? Just a rough idea.

Thanks.

Zane and FL4K are decent enough characters for sniping and operating in mid-range.

However, I will note that Zane gets to have two action skills where the secondary action skill overwrites the button you use for grenade mods. Thankfully, this ain't an oversight and he has skills in three of his four skill trees that let him still make use of his grenade mods via alternate means.

(Added) Just now remembered that Amara is decent in a pure gunplay kind of build. She ain't a pure melee character and I've found that she can operate just as well as Maya as a sniper character.

Thanks Talon,
I didn't want to watch a lot of tube videos full of spoilers before playing but checked one out not long ago just before I started playing. Seems Zane is a pretty versatile bet. I liked Siren in BL2 although Amara seems more melee focused in this one to some extent.

She has a single melee focused skill tree. Just because she has that doesn't mean you can't do a gun build with her. Same extends to every other character in this series who have single skill trees that are melee focused.

Hell, she even has an action skill that is more or less Phaselock.

Yep your probably right, the game seems more open to mixing up your character a lot more than BL2. I'll keep that in mind.
Suppose I can always respec once I get a better feel for the new mechanics and build possibilities.
Cheers.

I am enjoying FL4K so far.
He does gun crits like it's nobody's business.

And his pets have ranged options aswell. I mean a War Loader bot and Monkey with guns and rocket launcher - need i say more?

All of the vault hunter are good at mid range, if you liked Maya in BL2, you might like Amara in BL3 as she is essentially a better Maya.

I've mostly played Amara (who can be built to play very much like Maya in BL2) and Zane (who can be built to play like Mordecai, Roland, Wilhelm, Gaige ... ). Both seem pretty good at mid-range.

I tend to use snipers a lot in BL2 (and in BL:TPS) but in BL3 I tend to find them somewhat lack-luster. On the other hand, Assault Rifles seem much stronger in BL3 and I tend to use them a lot.
