It's no BL2 for sure, but BL2 aged somewhat poorly (especially the gunplay) and while I still consider it leagues above BL3, and one of my fav games of all time, going back to it after BL3 makes it very noticable what BL3 improved massively over 2. Mainly the level syncing in coop. Having to make dozens of characters for seperate singleplayer use and for seperate groups of friends is very tedious.
So I'm still playing this game not because of what it does right, but of what BL2 does wrong (mainly due to age and technical limitations, but still)
I'm anxiously awaiting someone to make a potential spiritual successor to Borderlands, but until then, seeing how Destiny 2 has been on a downhill slope for a while now, there simply isn't another looter shooter alternative that gets anywhere near close to BL2 (or even BL3, somehow).
And no, I don't count Warframe. I love Warframe but that game is vastly different.
