I can't install Borderlands 3 on my external harddrive
As you can see in the photo (https://imgur.com/a/KN8D86Q), my external hard drive has an extra of 1.27 tbs. But on Steam it says that I do not have enough disk space. I've finished downloading the 63 gbs of the game and when I was "Unpacking" the game, it just says Not enough free disk space. I've clear my steam's download cache and checked my hard drive for errors. I'm not sure what to do.

Don't know why steam flagged imgur as a dangerous site but here my reddit post with the picture also attached to it: https://www.reddit.com/r/borderlands3/comments/fi18dp/i_cant_install_borderlands_3_onto_my_external/

How much free space do you have on your C drive or the drive where Steam is installed? Maybe it wants to unpack it there first. I didn't look at the image Steam blocks it...
Steam -- Settings -- Downloads // "Steam Library Folders" -- you have to select the external before you start downloading, not after. It's still trying to install on your internal drive.

Yeah I only have 17 gbs on my C drive. If it is trying to unpack on my C drive what would be any solutions?

I think I added one? I mean I did download 63 gb of the entire game, it's just the unpacking that seems to be the issue.

I think your easiest option would be to delete the pre-load and download it again normally if you can. Make sure you have your external drive as a Steam library first. The pre-load files are in a folder called depotache in SteamApps. You'll probably have to restart Steam to pick up the changes.

Edit: I've just thought maybe you can move that depotcache folder to your external drive and do it from there instead?

Both my external hard drive and my C drive have a depotcache. Does that mean my only option is to re install? https://imgur.com/a/yLTw7zH

I would be willing to try moving the depotcache from C to external drive, the only files in there are pre-loads that I am aware of. The worst that can happen is re-downloading the game again. Remember to restart Steam afterwards.

Dude you're a genius, it works now! I removed the Depotcache from my external hard drive and replaced it with the one on my C drive and now it's downloading again! Thanks so much!

Edit: Wait, it's back to 20 gbs of download. Hopefully the same error won't happen again? Regardless, thanks. I'm sure it's just a small glitch.

I think the game also had a patch after unpacking and yeah it should be fine from now.
