ah ok, yeah, i have to admit, i'm extremely ignorant about upgrading in dark souls, like many games, i don't really play things in the conventional way, i tried doing a soul level 1 playthrough on my first playthrough, i was curious to see how far i could get, due to that, i didn't finish the game, i probably didn't even complete 30% of the game, but i spent about 300 or so hours in it repeatedly dying
yeah, sorry, i did upgrade my weapons actually, sorry, i misremembered what i did lol i kept my player at level 1 but i did upgrade weapons
this was my thinking when i did that: when i first started playing, after reaching firelink shrine, i absolutely fell in love with the ambience of the game, everything from the art style, the graphics, the sky, the scenery, the world design, the player armor, the weapons, the map layout, how vertical it was, it was actually mind blowing to me how vertical the map layout was, until then, almost every game i'd played was mostly horizontal landscapes, so the layout of the land in dark souls 1 just blew my mind
and i wanted to prolong that experience for as long as possible so i could stay in that world, and i thought the best way to slow down my progression would be to keep my player level at 1
that's essentially why, and once i started, i was too stubborn to change that one restriction, that being said, i did upgrade my weapons but for some reason i stuck to the character himself being at 1, which makes no sense if i upgraded the weapon, anyway, my thinking wasn't really rational, but that's as good as i can explain it
yeah, i noticed that, i couldn't handle a lot of weapons, my character would be extremely sluggish with the bigger ones, that's why i stuck with rapiers and knives
you're right, and i was a fool and a failure for trying it the way i did
i just wanted to prolong the magic of the first playthrough as long as i could... but i had to give up after i got the point where bosses i couldn't beat were blocking me at all points of progressing further
yeah i did notice that too, but (this is embarrassing to admit) i loved the aesthetic of the armor too much so i didn't want to take it off
