Are 1080 Ti users managing to max out BL3 (at 1440P)?
Am only curious because I saw benchmarking for 1080 Ti putting BL2 under 60fps at 1440p.

I put off buying BL3 until I bought a more powerful card, than my 1080 Ti. I ended up getting a 12GB RTX 3080, and am now playing BL3.

However I noticed my frame suggesting that BL3 would have maxed at 1440p on my 1080 Ti.

I cap my frame rate at 120fps in the Nvidia Control panel. While playing BL3 my fps has sat mostly at 120fps. There was the extremely rare moment or two when fps dropped to 119fps.

I played 15 hours of BL3 so far. The lowest I think I ever saw frame rate dip was 117 momentarily last night.

Am only curious.

For sure though the in-game fps so far, is higher than the BL3 benchmark. I think I got average 105fps the BL3 benchmark.

The game is quite CPU heavy however, having a strong GPU is a good thing too.

Now maxing out, do you mean your monitors refresh rate or max graphical settings?

Even an old 1070 can handle this game at 1440p at medium settings reaching 70+ fps so I'd imagine the 1080TI would do well with high settings.

Do be aware some graphics settings are performance hitters like Ambient Occlusion, Volumetric fog and most importantly Screen Space Reflection.

Just as another thing that will massively help is -notexturestreaming. Put this in your steam game command line argument and it'll make your loading times longer, but everything will be pre-loaded which will fix any stuttering or random fps drops you may get.

But since you're getting a 3080, that will easily max this game out graphics wise with 100+ fps

no.. you will have to turn down settings. volumetric fog and screen space being the most heavy. depending on your cpu. a 3080 will drop in frames in some places, but nothing game breaking

Ah yes. I meant all settings maxed, and able to maintain 60fps. (GTX 1080 Ti at 1440p.)

I bought RTX 3080 a while ago. Have played about seventeen hours of Borderlands 3 with it. (Other games too.)

OK.

It does make sense that should be the case. On Youtube the benchmark showed BL3 would not hold 60fps at 1440p, at max settings.

---------

I did notice one other aspect with the Borderlands 3 performance and the built in benchmark.

In BL3, with me having an RTX 3080 I put all settings to max. I ran the benchmark and got 97 average fps.

However I then noticed under the video settings that BL3 defaulted to 125% resolution. When I set the resolution slider to 100% resolution, it was only then running at true 1440p. The benchmark average fps increased to 107fps I think it was.

It made me suspicious that Youtube benchmarks may have inadvertently used 125% resolution. Either that or with RTX 3080 (12GB), BL3 pushed the resolution scaling up. Whereas it might not have done that with a GTX 1080 Ti.

i'm also on a 3080 and im running it with an i7 7700k. but i run at 4k not 1440p. there are only a few instances where the fps dropped but mostly its smooth sailing.
only issue with BL3 and nVidia cards is they made the game with Risen Radoeon cards in mind

Only issue is the i7-7700k is an older CPU that won't do super well for too long, even the cheap Ryzen 5 5600x massively beats it in performance. I know the CPU is less important for 1440p and above but it still has a good effect on the games performance

As long as you pick the right games, I guess the 7700K is still doing OK.

I have the 8700K (6-core), paired with the RTX 3080 12GB. With some games the 8700K can almost max out all cores at 1440p. (I set a frame rate cap of 120fps overall in Nvidia Control Panel.)

I think that 8700K may have just occasionally pushed the frame rate under 60fps. Very rare though, e.g. being:

RDR2 can almost push all twelve threads to 90%.
I think AC:Valhalla has very occasionally maxed an 8700K thread and therefore hit a CPU-bound frame limit.
I think Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition maxed a thread too. Was a while ago I played that with RTX 3080.
With the RTX 3080 pairing Horizon: Zero Dawn utilises most of the CPU too.

Again though my GPU is 3080 12GB. Always feels awkward having to state the 12GB, and it's not a bragging rights. It's that the 12GB has slightly higher specs than the 10GB RTX 3080. As we are mentioning performance, the 12GB kind of needs noting.

It's time to delid my 8700K though and replace the stock paste, then OC a bit. Even stock voltages and air-cooling it will run all cores at 4.8GHz. Normal all-core is 4.4GHz, and max clock is 4.7GHz. I didn't try all cores any higher yet, and I only OC-ed for one day. Temps were warmer so I pulled it back to stock clocks.

it stil holds up just fine. could be better but its not the deal breaker. im going to be upgraeding to a better cpu soon anyways. waiting for amd 7 series

My old 1080 (not Ti) played around 40-50 fps at 3440x1440 and a 7700k. When I moved to 5120x1440, I went down to max 30fps and got a 3090 as a result which now gives 80-90 fps (CPU is definitely a bottleneck, but I'm ok with those speeds for now).

Screens were Acer Predator and Samsung G9 if curious.

Have played about seventy hours of BL3 so far. Honestly think my 1080 Ti could have maxed it.

My frame with 3080 12GB is always between about 115 and 125fps frame rate cap. Mostly at 125fps.

In general I think the 3080 10GB and 12GB are about 80%-85% the 1080 Ti. (1440p)

Unless pascal is baulked with the engine then 1080 Ti should run at 60fps plus, at 1440p.
