Maybe you've got one of the issues with the screen display not showing your HUB correctly. What is your screen resolution?
You usually need to go to the skill menu, select a tree, and click the very first box at the very top of the tree to unlock it. The rest gives you an option to unlock the rest of the trees as you gain points.
Action skill unlocks at level 2, then at all the next levels (3,4,5,etc) you get 1 skill point to assign in whatever skill tree you want.
I picked my class through a mouse click that I though would provide more information, it did not. It selected the character that was currently highlighted. There was not confirmation; I wanted to rotate through - but no, it started the game! Whatever, I thought I would just discover what that class had to offer. Arghhh . . . . . .
As I said, I played, gained some levels - Well, apparently, before I could select a skill point, I needed to select a pet, which was related to my class? Was this specific to my class? I have no idea. In addition, I think the selection was drag and drop as opposed to clicking and and confirming. It could be a clickable interface, I have no idea! And, I don't know what my pet even does!
I eventually figured the interface out, at least enough to get started. I won't get in to specifics but drag and drop interface is awkward. So, I did pick a skill, I have no idea what it is or how it works. I have a pet too!
Man, I love the gunplay, story, graphics, and concept of this series but I do not like the interface. I feel like the menus and interface are metagame openworld exploration game simulation outside of the running and gunning! I am sure for some you this interface will be a easily interpreted, but for some reason I was flustered more so than the previous games in the series.
Thanks for all of the support, I do sincerely appreciate the assistance. Off to figure out what class I selected, what my pet does, and how to drop and drag the interface . . . . .
You should be able to select one action skill + one pet, so check on that, the menus can be tricky, but not too difficult once you get it. Good luck and have fun. Btw there are many classes and Fl4k is the only one where you can choose a pet and an action skill
