i assume my build is prob trash i'm playing siren
killing enemies takes a bit longer but it is still enjoyable.
my gear is lvl 49-54, so theres that as well.
i'm going to increase mayhem lvl once i reach max character lvl and have decent gear.
( i mean, if i can kill lvl 63 badasses on mayhem 2 with a lvl 49 KAOS, then playing mayhem 10 with level appropriate gear should not be an issue)
My favourite thing these days is taking a character from normal to Mayhem 11 by only using drops from foes and world chests. After Mayhem 1 is activated I quickly level up to 72 by doing the circle of slaughters and trials with cartels on.
By having done those when available in the main game and repeated visits to Joey's villa I finish the main story in the midl 50's level.
That's without doing side quests or DLC.
When at 72 some characters supported by a pet or iron cub can go straight to MH11.
For others a session at Mayhem 6 is required for me before going to 11.
Those guns that creamed the foes at Mayhem 1 find a li'l Skag to be a bullet sponge at Mayhem 10.
When at level 72 MH11 I respec for an end game character and acquire favourite guns and other gear.
M1 is the best one to get started with the 10% chance on kill (100% on critical kill) to get loot explosion. Fast money / eridium and more legendaries to get you going. M4 wasn't too bad, but some modifiers can really screw you up.
M6 is doable with M4 gear, M8 not too bad when M6 gear is active, and M10 is a nightmare, don't do it, just go straight M11.
Every VH has some weapons they can get most out of, try to get one of those at your current mayhem level before pushing higher so that you have a good weapon that you are familiar with and know what it can do (like the hellwalker for example) before attempting higher difficulties.
Don't worry about shields too much, just grab whatever blue / purple that drops on your mayhem level and has highest capacity until you reach M11, then you can start farming for whatever shields you want (same with grenades, look at them as accessories that will enable some of your skills etc not main dmg dealers).
I would not spend much time playing the content on intermediate mayhems before M10/11, as some rewards / drops are unique per playthrough and you wouldn't want to go TVHM to do it again at M10/11 (or reset story if you already are on TVHM), just target farm the essential pieces of gear to allow you to push higher mayhem levels.
If you enjoy vehicle combat, unlock the first vault card rocket launcher and carry it on you at all times, equip it before entering a vehicle, otherwise at higher mayhem levels your car won't be able to destroy any vehicle / enemies and will blow up before you can sneeze.
If Gearbox doesn't lock certain gears behind M6, I won't even turn on Mayhem mode at all.
I also sometimes play M1 if I feel like just mindlessly shooting stuff without worry. Basically just so I can use lootsplosion, getting some eridium while I'm at it.
