Can't connect cross play

hi everyone thought id ask here.
im trying to play with my friend who is on steam and me on my xbox series x.
it just keeps timing out and under my name and theirs it changes the icon to local only while we try to connect to each other.
we have re added each other on shift a few times too and it's still not working.

I'm having the same issue, but I'm on STEAM, my friend too on STEAM, and we have the same problem. Timed out. Some times after trying a lot of times, we can connect to each other. But right now we can't play together again.

The connection failed - game session no longer exists.
That's what I'm getting...

Yeah it just keeps failing to connect and idk how to fix it

Yeah they were able to connect.
I can't even get into a game with my friend.
This sucks a lot

Yup same here, we can join a game BARELY, and then it just disconnects after a couple of minutes. Have checked all settings, running open NAT. No dice.

Can’t play multiplayer even today. I’m on Xbox, friends in PC. So called “cross play” is simply a lie. This should be illegal. 3 nights in a row 2 hours of trying until at some point it connects and we play with the little time we have left. Next day, same thing. I give up. My NAT is open, internet speed 400mbt, network test on Xbox says all is good. If it doesn’t work under these circumstances, it’s false advertisement and should be punished by law.
