Game crashes on start up.
The game starts and I get to the point where Clap trap dances across the screen then I get a crash reading "Unreal Engine is exiting due to D3D device being lost" and I get a notification in my bar reading "Application Borderlands3.e has been blocked from accessing Graphics hardware."
I have tried a bunch of stuff and cant figure out how to fix the issue. This has been since Dec 12th.
What I have tryed
Verifying game files
Uninstall and reinstall
verifying drivers are up to date (I mean friggin all of them from nvidia to directx)
Reinstalling all my drivers (a clean reinstall)
Verifying system files
Making sure C++ files are installed and up to date
Making sure game is in direct x 11 instead of 12
I don't over clock anything but I did also try under clocking.
I'm on a Intel Core i7-9700f CPU @ 3.00GHz & NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080ti

Please I'm pulling out my hair trying to figure this out.

Have you contacted 2K or GBX for support yet?

Nope, I will now, but came here first because I have heard they take forever to respond and often never do.

Last played the game over a year ago, it worked fine. Now, when I click Play, the splash screen with the 4 Vault Hunters pops up, then goes away, then a second later pops back up again. I've let it sit there doing that for 5 minutes until I cancel it.

Processor - AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor 3.59 GHz
RAM - 16 GB
Graphics - NVidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super
OS - Windows 10 Home 64 Bit

I have no problems launching any other games on Steam, including Borderlands 2.

Things I've tried:

- Verifying integrity of game files (several times, including after reinstall)
- Reinstalling (once)
- Ensuring the game was allowed in Norton's firewall settings, then tried just turning the firewall off and launching to see what happened (nothing different)
- Confirmed graphics drivers (and Windows in general) were up to date
- Run as administrator, launched from the exe in Steam's files
- Ran UE4PrereqSetup_x64
- Went to Documents\My Games\Borderlands 3\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\GameUserSettings and tried both DX 11 and 12
- Reinstalled DirectX just for fun

Is there some magic trick to get this game to work or am I hosed?

Well I just flushed an hour and a half down the toilet with 2k's support team and nothing's changed. They're directing me to Microsoft Support for THEIR game (and ONLY this particular game, for example Borderlands 2 works JUST FINE) not opening so good luck y'all.

First I'd backup my Borderlands 3 folder in My Games and download my cloud saves from Steam.

https://www.howtogeek.com/428491/how-to-download-your-save-games-from-steam-cloud/

Then I'd delete the Borderlands 3 folder in My Games and see if the game would start.

i have the exact problem, i have a rtx 3070ti and a 10700k and it worked fine a year ago on my last computer but will not even start up now on my new one, and i also hopped through gearbox and Microsoft hoops to no avail and great frustration.

Have you tried deleting the shader cache and ini files so that the game starts up fresh and provides you a new opportunity to configure it and build a new cache?

Go to your game folder. Something like the default install
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Borderlands 3\Engine\Extras\Redist\en-us" >>> assumed your default install else search on your own.

Look for this file "UE4PrereqSetup_x64.exe" double click to run it.

The most common fault is due to MVC was over written by another game.
