What synergizes nicely with MNTIS cannon for Zane?

Hey all,
Most of my gameplay on my main character has been with Zane and I pretty much exclusively play him with other people; He's the "stay alive and CC the crap out of everything" guy. Ie, I can keep his shield and clone up pretty much non-stop. He can handle his own with the way I have him set up, but I'm looking to try out another build with the MNTIS cannon.

A lot of the info is very specific on how to build him, but what I'm looking for is more general information on what synergizes well with it.

With a cursory glance over the skill tree, I see that I can make it do frost damage - Does that go well with proc'ing the shield? Will it actually freeze people?

I also see a few posts about stacking the crit damage, and I see the Unforgiven being mentioned a lot but.. I'm not quite sure how that ties into a build? I've also seen mention that basically it's just good for ASE procs, is that the case?

I'd rather not be stuck with farming very specific pieces of gear, I quite like a bit of freedom to mess around - With my main I can basically run anything and it still works up to Mayhem 3/4, is that viable with a build around the MNTIS cannon?

Cheers for any advice, I'm just looking for a direction to think about with the MNTIS cannon and working it into some sort of build.

If its weapons you are asking for then imo pretty much everything works with zane. He's very much a "I can make everything work due to skills" character because he just pumps pure damage everywhere. As for mantis cannon exclusively then really anything that has high crit or good damage. unforgiven for example can be used to cheese boost the crit to absurd levels but my personal favorite for every character is the shredifier or mongol just because their fun to use but not really good in a high min max builds

To me it’s purpose was to use it with shield procs and any kill skill procs as well. Regarding weapons, anything goes because of high damage output, so just have fun and try out anything that catches your eye. For the cannon itself I suggest giving it the aug that gives it 5 charges and you can probably make it do frost damage as well if that’s what you’re in to.

Any anoint that says "proc on skill end" is easy to abuse with the MNTIS cannon thanks to it technically ending once the shot is fired. Stack that with the skill that gives the cannon more shots and you can proc anoint bonus damage on demand with it.

I recommend a transformer (Shield) and a shock backburner, with clone you literally cannot die. Infiltrator class mod from Skrakk on pandora also insane

I use it mostly to proc my Revolter shield, but it synergizes extremely well with the Hellwalker provided that you use the grappling hook augment nonetheless.
It is extremely satisfying to pull an enemy 20m away from you with the shoulder cannon and then blast its face off with one of the best shotguns in the game.
My Hellwalker has an anoint that grants additional dmg to the MNTS canon so it deals a lot of damage by itself.

PS: wtf you doing on Mayhem 4, grab your Gun Gun, crank Mayhem mode to 11 and pump some legendaries with it and you're good to go already.
