Torgue shotguns can have a gernades like projectiles with the 4 ammo magazine.
Also the COV heavy weapon type called Zooka are lob explosives.
Last you got mortar and gernade launcher shots on heavy weps and assault rifle on Vladof guns.
Dyex, i think you are correct, Grenade Damage on class mod item card is only for throwing Grenades.
Catkicker, you are also correct bl2 had loads of grenade damage weapons, Kerblaster, Ogre, Unkempt Harold, Teapot etc etc
in bl2, Grenade Damage is Explosive Damage on the weapon item card
in bl3, there is Grenade Damage on Class Mod, Splash Damage on the Weapon Item Card and Skill Tree - but no Grenade Damage on the Weapon Item Card

Tediore equation: Damage = Base Damage * Gun Damage * Grenade Damage * v1 * v2 * Splash * Bullets in Mag * Elemental
But really if you have a slot open for a skill booster, Area Damage increase is the better choice.
