Is Flak really that bad?

I like playing characters with pets/side kicks. I've played Mordecai, Gage, and Wilhelm.

The corresponding character appears to be Flak. I'm going to be playing BL3 for the first time tonight, and I've been watching some videos. It appears that everybody agrees that Flak is the weakest character and has definite survivability issues.

I've seen 3 videos that all said the same thing: Flak is the least desirable character. Now (I guess the game is still being rebalanced?)

These are all YouTube videos. I'm curious what real people think.

I like having pets, but I also like kicking ass too. Should I stay away from Flak?

Flaks team mate revives better than... team mates.
There are other characters in BL3 ? I actually thought it was the FLAK show. I'm bias sueme.

If you farm a bit xp/legendaries you will be kicking ass. Maybe it's the least desirable char, but still good enough too enjoy the game.

FL4K is the most efficient boss killer, the revices with the pet are damn nice but it is not the toughest character.

He tends to be a little on the squishier side of things,however, if you go the Gamma Burst route for your flak build there is a class mod called Red Fang that will make enemies attack your pet and not you while Gamma Burst is active. While it won't completely fix the squishy it makes it less of a concern overall as the aggro isn't on you.

I played thru as zane he as he seemed to be the mord/zero of the game. Didnt really look indepth at teh trees worked fine as a sniper character with all the dmg amping and seemed fairly nice with the clone also being able to use the weapon as well with the final upgrade on its tree.

Didnt play the loops just the main story but the main story didnt seem hard enough to require uber optimizaiton so just play what you want.

fl4k has currently probabaly the strongest build (nova spam that deal millions of damage) besides that his complete kit is pretty solid. as of right now i call the game completely playable on mayhem 10 with all characters without big problems.

most wannabe "pro´s" call a character bad or least desireable when that character needs 1 second longer to kill a enemy. also with the upcoming 4th skill trees nobody knows how the game will turn around.

^this. Try all of them and go with whichever you like the most. All the classes do well.
