Above is the link to the error I keep experiencing while attempting to play this game.

Here are my PC specs:

GPU- 1080 TI
Mobo- MSI B450 Tomahawk Max
Ram- 16g Corsair RGB 3200
PSU- Corsair 1000W Platinum
CPU- AMD Ryzen 5 3600X

I keep experiencing this fatal error while the game attempts to retrieve my account information, causing the game to freeze and have to be forced closed via task manager.

I have done the following:

1- Uninstalled/Reinstalled the game
2- Verified the cache
3- Performed a clean install of all drivers for Bios/GPU/CPU
4- Adjusted the Launch settings via Steam
5- Adjusted the 3D settings via Nvidia Control Panel
6- Disabled all OC and Third Party Programs (GeForce Experience)
7- Downloaded Epic Games Launcher to update Unreal Engine (no idea why people suggest this)

I am at a loss... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as I am not very tech savvy.

I switched off volumetric fog and screen space reflections and it hasn't crashed yet like it always did before. That might work for you too.

Unfortunately, I can't even get far enough into the game to get to the options menu T-T

@BilvetWidget, Great catch and suggestion! It looks like my PC is on ULTIMATE PERFORMANCE. Kinda sarcastic because I didn't even know Ultimate was an option lol. I checked and the PCI Express setting is OFF fortunately. Unfortunately, there was nothing for me to change, but I hope this suggestion helps others. :)

Thanks so much Pal! This solved my problems with this game. Since 9th of july I couldn´t play the game properly. It crashed so often. Your Info saved my ass. Now I can start hunting golden items again. :) Cheers
.. but sadly the problem is there again but I could play for around 30 min instead of 5-7 min. Thats a progress.. Honestly Gearbox released a pretty buggy DLC this time. So all the other things I have done already (newest nvidia driver, switch off steam overlay, windowed game, etc..) So: Finally Ill wait for some bugfix to be released (maybe next year *irony off*)..

I still get crashes too from time to time and the performance is not great... considering my PC meets beyond the normal requirements. But if you reduce to anistropic filtering to 4X or lower it may lessen the amount of crashes. Hope this helps.

If you can't switch off volumetric fog and screen space reflections in the menu you can always do it in GameUserSettings.ini located in: C:\Users\[your username]\Documents\my games\Borderlands 3\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor

Make sure to create a copy of that file before changing it!

Open the file and scroll down to where volumetric fog and SSR is located and change them to:

VolumetricFogMode=Off
ScreenSpaceReflectionsMode=Off

Do I need a specific application/program to read these files in the WindowsNoEditor folder? When I click the files, they open in notepad and are completely blank.
same problem XD

Hey Everyone, wanted to share this for everyone who needs it.

As we know, I have been trying to resolve this with 2K and they had valuable suggestions that may help someone.

Originally, they suggested I disable firewall, reinstall DirectX and check my audio/video drivers:

Let's check if the Antivirus or Firewall Software is creating this issue, I request you to please disable your antivirus for a few minutes and launch the game and check if the error persists. If the issue persists I request you to please perform these troubleshooting steps:

Reinstall DirectX

Head over to: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Steamworks Shared_CommonRedist"
Find and run DXSETUP.exe
Reboot your computer (mandatory)

Updating your Audio/Video Drivers

Most PC issues can be easily resolved by updating your Audio & Video Drivers. Here are a few links to help you with that.

Audio Drivers

To learn how to update your audio drivers in Windows 10: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/instantanswers/ad5a063e-5f57-c715-2566-b983195752c1/update-drivers-in-windows-10
To learn how to update your audio drivers in Windows 8 and 8.1: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/15046/windows-8-download-install-drivers

Video Drivers

Most video card manufacturers allow you to download their card drivers directly from their website. Here's a list from where you can do that.

Intel Drivers: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/
AMD Drivers: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download
Nvidia Drivers: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Unfortunately, these suggestions didn't work. So I sent them some diagnostics and they said that I potentially had a memory leak causing the game to crash. I was given this suggestion:

"I've checked your MSInfo file and as I can see the root cause of this issue is an error "RADAR_PRE_LEAK", which indicates a memory leak. I'll surely help you with this.

I would now ask you to try the following things. Please do them in the order as provided.

Firstly, try running the System File Checker. The System File Checker is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.

To run the SFC, just follow these steps:

1) Click on the Start button and in the search field type "CMD".
2) In the list of results you will see "Command Prompt" please right-click and select "Run as Administrator"
3) In the new window please type "sfc /scannow" (note the space between sfc and "/")

You may have to run this up to 3 times to verify/fix all the problems.

You may find more information about the file checker on the Microsoft's support site found here

After you've run the file checker, please let us know if it was able to find any issues and resolve them all.

We also ask that you please include the CBS.log file that SFC will create after the process is complete when responding. To locate this file;

1) Click on the Start button and in the search field type "CMD"
2) At the command prompt, type the below command and press ENTER:

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"

3) The file "sfcdetails.txt" should then be created on your desktop.
4) Attach this file with your response.

Now then, please also try running the game in a "Clean Boot" of Windows after running the System File Checker to see if there is any other program interfering with the game.

The instructions on how to do this are here

The article also explains how to boot back into your normal Windows environment.

Also, please re-verify your game integrity once again while in Clean Boot before launching your game. To do so;

From within the Steam Library page, right-click on your game and select "Properties".
From within the "Local Files" tab select the option to "Verify Integrity of Game Cache". "

Unfortunately, this suggestion didn't help my situation either. This was the latest update:

Thanks for contacting us back,

Sorry to hear that you are still facing this issue, I really appreciate your efforts for trying the troubleshooting steps. There might be some external software or operations which might be causing this issue. I request you to please perform these troubleshooting steps.

Check Disk

Back up your files.

Right-click the Start Windows icon.

Select "Open Windows Explorer".

In the navigation pane, click Computer so that your drives appear in the right pane.

Right-click the drive that you want to check (in this case, the drive where Steam and the game is installed.)

Click "Properties".

Click the Tools tab.

Click the "Check Now" button.

In the Check Disk <disk name> window, select the "automatically fix file system errors" check box.

Note: If you want to perform a detailed test of the hard drive, you can select the "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" check box. You should do that in the justified suspicion of an existing hardware error in any case. Please note that the operation can then take a long time. For a first routine check, we recommend that you do not select this option.

Click Start.

If the drive that you want to check is currently in use and it is your system drive, you will see a dialog box with a warning message. In this case, click "Schedule disk check".

Exit all open programs, and then restart your computer. The checking will start automatically before next Windows startup and display the results when completed.

If you are not checking the system drive, you do not have to turn off the computer. However, the selected drive may also be in use. In this case, you will receive a message. Save all your files. After you have saved all files and close all open programs, click "Force a dismount".

The checking starts immediately. After it is completed, the results will be displayed.

Create a New Windows Profile and try to run the game

Click the Start button

Click Control Panel

Clicking "User Accounts and Family Safety" (or clicking "User Accounts", if you are connected to a network domain)

Click "User Accounts"

Click "Manage Another Account"

Click "Create a New Account"

This will probably the be last attempt I'll have at resolving this crash, as the game's free trial period is over. I sincerely hope this has helped at least one person enjoy this game we've all been eagerly waiting for. And I appreciate everyone coming through and trying to help others. This game has a great community, just wish we were able to enjoy it :(
If i have to jump through all those hoops to run a game then screw that. It ran perfectly fine on epic with no problems at all and now i buy it on steam and it magically doesn't work? Nah, i think i'll just refund it.

Hey Benni,

I'm here to assist you with the crashing issue you've encountered.

Let's start by doing a cache clear, as this is a common solution to many issues.

If that didn't work, the next troubleshooting suggestion I have is to back up your files and completely re-install your game. This helps to re-sync any files that may have been corrupted.

Once you've finished re-installing the game then give it another shot, hopefully, this helps to solve it. If after all of that, it's still occurring for you, I'm going to need you to please send back the following information so we can try to pinpoint exactly what might be causing this.

If you were able to play before, please provide this info about your game prior to the crashing

What game mode does this happen in, online or single-player?
What part/map of the game were you in and was it DLC?
What character are you playing as?
What Mayhem level were you playing on and what modifiers were active?

Additional information
Can you please send us a quick video showing this crashing issue?
Any other information you deem valuable would be appreciated!

Instructions on how to take and upload a video will be included here: How To Upload Videos For Your Support Ticket. You can also just upload the video to YouTube and then send me the link. That usually works best in these types of situations.

Once I receive this video from you I'll be able to take the necessary steps to help solve this issue for you. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you,

Hey again Benni,

Thank you for following up on the ticket. If the suggestions I provided my last reply didn't do the trick for you, don't worry! We will continue looking into this.

Here are some PC-specific steps to ensure that the game and all its required software is properly installed.

Please follow this 2K Support Article in order to access the steps you'll need to follow. Please make sure to go through each step so we can rule them out as a possible cause.

If the above steps don't resolve your issue, I'll need a copy of your DXDiag and MSinfo files.

This Support Article will show you how to access these files and attach them to your reply.

Please include your DxDiag, MSinfo and a screenshot/video of any error messages that you might be getting. Here's a Link on how to take screen captures.

If you have any questions during this process, please let me know!

Thanks,

I have the feeling i might be to dumb for something.... so I have a weird request, is Teamviewer possible? ( and to the missing files,I cant find )=> It says(C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\NBA2K18\ _CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010) and I have [ My A is the same thing as C but A is where i have everything C ](A:\Steam\steamapps\common) then it only says my game and if I go to Borderland 3 / I will find OakGame and the Engine files . if I go deeper, I cant find anythink called [any of these seperate] ( NBA2K18\ _CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010)

Hey again Benni,

Thanks for providing more info on that. I understand what you mean now, regarding the missing files. Don't worry, if your game's folder doesn't contain the installation files for these programs, you can download the latest version for each one via the official Microsoft website. Please check these links:

vcredist ->https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads
DirectX -> https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/179113/how-to-install-the-latest-version-of-directx

As for your inquiry regarding TeamViewer, we currently offer support through email tickets and also live chat support, if that's more preferable.

All the best,

Hello Everyone, I am finally back. I believe I found the source of my issues, a faulty video card. My card did not give me any symptoms that it was dying, and all of the issues seemed to be blamed on the unreal engine through error messages. I know this is a gamer's worst nightmare, but the most expensive part of the rig was the issue.

If anyone has tried all of these fixes offered by the community and developers, I would highly suggest you plug in an old card that you know works to see if that solves your issues. I ended up using my old GTX 770 and all of my gaming issues disappeared.

Thank goodness my video card was still under warranty for a few more days, and EVGA honored the warranty despite the RMA process taking much longer than anticipated.

Good luck out there, gamers.
my 2 pence worth. Tried all suggestions to no avail, I ended up downclocking my gpu memory speed by 150mhz, no crashes now. As you say gpu is dying anyway, artifacting in other games. 4.5 year old gtx 1080

Same, I had a 3 year old 1080 TI that gave up on me. Thankfully, before the warranty ended. Might just be time for us to upgrade, unfortunately
I decided to get back to B3 after some time - at first it was fine but then all the fatal errors, oak stuff, etc started happening.

None of the steps from different threads helped.

It got worst after some overclocking on the GPU so I decided to roll back to defoult settings (no overclock on the GPU). Works like a charm.

Did some testing - something they did along the way coused the game to really dislike OC on GPU. There is a small treshold where it works (you can have OC and play the game, it may crash though) BUT the performance is worse... Like you have more computing power but the fps were lower and there were some graphicall issues.

So long story short - no OC on GPU. Have fun killing baddies:)
