"-NOTEXTURESTREAMING" causing DLC intro videos to crash
So if you don't know, adding "-NOTEXTURESTREAMING" to launch options well... disables texture streaming, and GREATLY helps with stuttering. A big problem though is the intro cutscenes to DLC barely even work, and stutter/crash frequently. At one point when my game actually loaded, all the textures were corrupted and I had to restart the game.

I guess i'm just wondering if anybody else is having this issue, and if there is a way to fix it without removing the launch option.

after 2k fixes your engine on their servers youll need to follow this persons guide to finish enabling proper texture streaming, but set read only attributes on the file or the game will change it right back to -1

My documents -> My games -> Saved -> Config -> windowsNoEditor -> game user settings. Open it, find line " texture streaming Pool size MBOverride from -1 to 1. After this my all stuttering gone. Playing everything on ultra, stable 80+ fps on i7 7700k gtx 1070, 16gb ram :ooo

i personally also set all viewboostscale and adaptiveboostscale settings to 0.

(you'll also need to remove -NOTEXTURESTREAMING. its supposed to work & be a free performance boost that may allow you to increase your visible graphics).
Not only does my game run even better now, the cutscenes work perfectly! Thanks friend.

Yeah only bad thing is textures sometimes don't load in properly and stay low res... but I find that more than an OK trade for super smooth frames. Also be sure to have Texture streaming set to Ultra or else it is... super buggy to say the least.

try going to,
C:\Users\Documents\My Games\Borderlands 3\Intermediate\Config\CoalescedSourceConfigs

create a new/blank text file and name it EditorPerProjectUserSettings.ini

then paste in,

[Engine.Engine]
bKeepAllMaterialQualityLevelsLoaded=True

[TextureStreaming]
bKeepAllMaterialQualityLevelsLoaded=True

[SystemSettings]
bKeepAllMaterialQualityLevelsLoaded=True

save/close, set read only. backup elsewhere. should solve "pop in" while keeping texture streaming enabled.
Works great, thanks again! Only problem I noticed is as of testing right now, Iron Bear's compass texture doesn't load properly at all. Other then that though no problem.

Cheers for those ini tweaks. I've been using -notexturestreaming for a loooooong time and got used to the load times, but the videos not playing were a bit ♥♥♥♥ seeing as it's new DLC and all.

The tweaks seem to work just fine for me using Proton as if it were native Windows.
The only thing I noticed was some textures remained blurry, like a shield in my inventory etc. Might be down to needing to clear and rebuild shader cache I guess. Nothing I can't live with.

Yeah just to give an example of my problem, and what I assume is similar to hateball's problem, here is a pic of the Iron Bear compass in my game https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2142340169

I really appreciate all your input and feedback, i'll be sure to try those tommorow.

Tried setting those TextureAtlasSize and FontAtlasSize to 2048 and 4096 but it makes no difference. Some textures just look ♥♥♥♥, but I'm at the point where I don't really care as long as the game is at least playable :BL3Shrug:

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥!!! makes most textures pixelated/blurry, console pleb options. Not a boost!

I did read entire thing you wrote and tested different settings even allowing more PoolSize, the luck you say is being a blind ?

It helps significantly with stuttering. Also you don't have to be so rude.

Maybe it helps for I don't know what crap machine you got there, but -NOTEXTURESTREAMING solve all the stutters if you have more than 16 GB of Ram, I got used to loading times by modding every game and pushing it to it's limits.
Of course I had about 30 fps boost but at what cost... I don't want to be blind.

I just thought that this man came with ultimate solution for proper TextureStreaming option, nope.

It's an alternative option, obviously not for people like you.

Oh damn, this is very very bad news. Gutted to hear we can't use this anymore :( :( :(

I heavily relied on the -notexturestreaming augment to make circle of slaughters playable. To give you an idea of the difference it made for me - without it, playing a circle of slaughter was near impossible due the constant micro-stutters of 1-2 seconds constantly as soon as a few weapon drops started to build up on the ground. With the -notexturestreaming thing on, I would have zero stutters, no matter how many weapon drops were on the ground.

Without this command line augment, circle of slaughters will become literally unplayable for me :( Damn :(

Why can't they just fix the performance issues associated with lots of weapon drops on the ground, rather than bork useful command line augments.

Baz78, thanks for the codes/commands. I fiddled around with some of them and managed to overall keep myself from stuttering every couple seconds based on the things I noticed would make me freeze during gameplay. Altough shots coming from unused (unloaded) guns still give me micro stutters, maybe I missed out on the code that fixes it, I have to look again. Also when there's a lot of special effects going on it randomly runs smooth sometimes while at other moments it doesn't, feels random.
Anyway, thank you for being so helpful when 2k/gearbox wasn't.
