Max out skill tree or split them up?

Anyone know of some good discussions on whether to max out a skill tree or split up the points? And how to do so?

That is too broad a question to give you the right awnser.

You want to pick skills that synergies together and with the gear and playstyle you like.

It's better to tell us that first and what vault hunter.

It depends what you want to do, on my amara build, I have the Green and Orange all taken and ignored the Blue one completely

Not really contributing to the discussion ,but is anyone else getting notified of threads they are not subscribed to like me? Has been happening mainly in the BL3 forums here on Steam, this is like the third one I have got today, just curious if anyone else has noticed this as well?

I had skill tree maxed out in my first zane build and it was ok. Now I have respected skills to compliment each other and my gear. Difference is night and day that character is crushing M10 bosses and no tree is fully maxed out.

Yes it happens to me on game hubs that I am really active in, Not sure wether a mod enabled it on the users account or if its automatic

You do NOT want to max out any single tree, but in general for every build there normally is 1 of the lvl6 skill (the single skill in the bottom row) that you really want to have.
Other than that look for skills that synergize for what you want to built. You do nto need a specifica built to finish the game, did Mayhem 4 with a rather bad skill-build, just takes longer.

what I mean by all taken on a skill tree, is I have the orange and green all taken up as much as I could with the available points available, Not everything in the trees I used is activated

You basically need to see how you can stack the highest multiplier. You just need to remember which buffs stack with which additively and with which multiplicatively. And then think through your gun/skill rotation to bring it to the highest efficiency.

Maxing out the tree or even reaching the bottom is not necessary and often suboptimal. For example, on Fl4k orange tree is real good, but its last skill is an unskilled cr*nch for most of the guns and you will get better results if you save points and spend it elsewhere provided that you can aim.

For any of the 4 VH’s the best/most powerful builds will have points in at least two of the three trees.

I copied my main Amara and tried actually filling one tree. For both the green & red tree I was able to run through Joey’s hideout, mostly okay. When I respected into blue tree, ugh, phasecast sucks & it wasn’t as fun to play.

It is not a bad skill at all - certainly not as much of a game-changer as some other skills, but it helps a lot when you have weapons with large projectiles, shotguns, enemies that have hidden crit-spots or other such things. Not to mention that it works well together with some of his others skills - skill-Cooldown and ammo-regen really work nicely with that.

With most guns its usefulness drops down fast with player skill, that's why I said "unskilled cr*nch".

If someone is outright blind and never hits crit-spot and say have 3x damane on crti than the dps gain is 0.2x3-0.2 = 0.4 -> 40%. That is a lot. But for a reasonable player who hits crit-spot 8/10 it will be only 0.4 * (0.2 / (0.8x3+0.2)) = 0.03 -> 3%.

Same goes for shotties as you will hit crit with most of the pellets anyway unless you use it when it is really not a good place to use shotty.

For some situations surely helps, but not for most.

I ran Amara with completely maxed out Fist of the Elements tree and the rest in Brawl tree. Worked fine till they released Mayham 2.0.... the damage output just wasn't enough for M10. Since then, I use a build that is nearly even between Mystical Assault and Fist of the Elements, using both tree's capstone skills. On second thought, since Mayham 2.0 all my characters use builds with skills in two trees while almost ignoring the third....

Interesting; I also like fist of elements (red) tree & usually run Maliwan guns but prefer getting to Angel in Brawl (green) tree since I lost count of how many times I’ve killed myself with dot. Hmm, reminds me I really need a good anointed “Its Pee” grenade mod.

I’ve played a bit w/M10 but not enough dmg & its way too slow for me. I usually run M6 but the past 2 days have been rushing all the cartel challenges & on M1 it’s super fast. All I have left is one more Franco kill w/spikes & I’ll be done.
