Can't join friends/friends can't join

Been playing with the same friend yesterday. Then today, for no reason, i can't join him and he can't join me. I have 1 ms latency on every speedtest. All other games are fine. Same for him.

Edit: Also we both cannot matchmake. Yesterday everything was fine.

And when he try or i try, under our nametags we can see the ''local only'' icon apearing, greyd out.

Hey guys I had the same problem and found a solution that worked for me. If you put Steam in offline mode (not invisible, offline) I was able to connect to my friend. This seems to have the same effect as the suggestion by Talking Waterfall, but i guess you dont need to disconnect from the service. Hope this might help some people, cheers

So I figured out a fix to the problem. If you can, invite your friend through discord and it works for me everytime.

Hey guys me and a friend got it working like this, surprisingly easy:
- Host launches Borderlands 3 and starts game
- The joiner does NOT open the game but stays in Steam
- Then either 1) host invites joiner through Steam where joiner accepts or 2) joiner clicks Join Game through Friends List. Both options will launch the game and instantly (and successfully) connect to the host's game.
Apparently it breaks if the joiner already has the game launched and tries to connect from ingame, so joiner should have it closed and join host's game from Steam.

We have 3 people and only one of us cannot join or invite rest of us. Really annoying!

I have been experiencing this same issue for a week now. I opened a support ticket with 2K and they just sent me the usual network troubleshooting info. No acknowledgement that there could be an issue on their end.

I have found a solution that works for me that involves Discord, I was unable to connect to my friends who were playing together via Steam when I'm on EGS, I right-clicked on my friend's name on discord while they were playing Borderlands 3 and asked to join, then I launched Borderlands and went into the direct messages with that person and hit join and it worked.

Ok, I think I have found a way around. This worked for us. The host needs to start matchmaking (any would work) through the social tab. Once the matchmaking queue starts, the other friend can join. Cancel the search once your friend is in the lobby and that's it. Hope this works.

ONLY THE ONE WHO IS JOINING NEEDS TO DO THIS

Go to https://shift.gearboxsoftware.com/associations 860 and unlink epic games.
Start the game usually > enable PC crossplay > type some temporary nickname.
Go to social > Shift > log in to your account > pick your username.
Join the host in his lobby through Shift > continue playing.

i have found going into Network and Social settings and setting "Friend Sync" and "PC Cross Play" to OFF seems to let me connect....but then if it fails to connect again, turning these back to ON seems to also work...such a strange issue. Also found sometimes only clicking on my friends steam name lets me connect

Inviting while host is fully in the game using steam has worked for my self and my partner. Tried all other recommendations including firewall rules and logging out and back in to shift account with no success until now. Thanks Hotto Doggo for the solution in my case.
P.S: Removed all port firewall rules and removed all changes that had been made and still works through the invite method. Seems to be a Borderlands/Software issue and not network or hardware related.

This actually works. We've been trying to get it to work with many of above 'fixes' and this one is the only one to work. Thanks man!

The multiplayerimplementation of this game is one of the worst i experienced, especially If you take the price of this title in consideration.

However if your ISP forces a strict NAT you are out of luck playing this game online. Even forwarding all the TCP- and UDP-Ports on your router wont help in this case.

Me and my friends ended up using ZeroTier as a VPN to play online. At least on PC you have this option.

Hi guys, have the same errors as you. Found solution, Borderlads 3 connection crashes, because of multiple friend instances. All you need to do is go to your SHIFT account, remove all associations with other accounts (steam/EGS). In short everything is fine if you see only 1 friend account (SHiFT) and no others (for the same friend). Sounds complicated but if you Borderlands fan as me it works 100% (tested with 4 friends).
