Zane: do grenade-based skills work when you have 2 action skills?

I recently went two action skills with my level 40-ish Zane: clone and drone. I am mainly invested into the clone tree, and I divested from grenade-based skills like Duct Tape, Fractal Frags, and Pocket Full of grenades.

However, I noticed I still have a grenade slot despite not being able to use them. Can I invest in grenade-based perks even if I don't technically have them? Will it allow my clone to throw my equipped grenade (i.e., through Fractal Frag skill)?

Your drone can sometimes throw a grenade at enemies.. as for the clone, i don't know

Yes, grenade skills will help even though you can't throw them yourself. I play Zane a lot with clone/drone and I have to say the clone throws grenades much more than the drone drops them. Also there is a skill near the end for the clone where he absorbs grenade ammo to become stronger so when you have the pocket full of grenades skill on like 1/3 your clone can always spawn in strong. Oh and I personally never really used the duct tape skill. Rarely worked for me so I put those 5 points elsewhere.

Duct tape triggers far to less to be worth it. I had it 5/5 during leveling and it triggered not often enough to justify the points. I mean... a 20% chance to trigger for only the first bullet in the magazine? It rarely triggered with most weapons. It was OK with Jacobs shotguns that have a magazine size of three or lower. But five points for that?

And Clone drops grenade (if skilled): when he appears, when he dies, and with 30% chance on a kill made by him or yourself.
