My guess is that the game was actually writing the save-file while the power turned off, this means the game wasn't able to finish the writing of the save-file, so the old data got overwritten, but nothing got saved because the power went off before. You can check the filesize of your save, if it's like 1-20kb i feel sorry for you, because there's no data left to recover. My advise would be activating the cloud sync or writing a small script which backups your saves now and then to be completely safe.
Edit: do you have the option to show all extensions turned on? Windows usually hides known extensions.
I do have cloud sync enabled, but that only helps with games that support cloud saves. Borderlands 3 has a local save system that the game manages as it runs. That's a bummer.
After reading numerous topics and threads both here, on the official forums and on any video material I could find - it turns out I'm ♥♥♥♥♥♥, right in the ass.
To all the players ending up here - God forbid your game crashes or your power goes down.
To prevent this from affecting you - it's up to you to SAVE your SAVE files every now and then. This sounds so ridiculous...
Here's the path to find them:
Open a file browser -> Libraries -> Documents -> My Games -> Borderlands 3 -> Saved -> SaveGames -> "that long gibberish folder" -> Save files are inside, just archive them and start your game.
Next session you do, just do another archive and delete the old one.
Hopefully Gearbox will open their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pockets soon and start paying for a cloud saving service like every other decent studio. Jesus, this got me mad... I lost 60 hours of progress. It's like they cut my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ arms and gouged my eyes out!
Please someone quote this in a reply so I can mark it as the answer to the thread. Thanks!
