The calypso twins weren't written very well, they didn't have any depth beyond AAAARGH stupid dad grrrr.
The entire game seems very same phase the whole time, as opposed to bl1 and bl2 where the story was broken into segments.
Just the way i saw it, once you've played the story a few times its a bit better.
Looks like they could have escape but Ava has to open her big mouth
People just search for things to be unhappy about, honestly. BL3's humor isn't "lulz teh randum" like people love to say it is, it references memes people are STILL unironically making popular videos/posts about, and characters aren't just going "haha cheese monkeys XD", they're acting ridiculous, but not ' tehpenguin of d00m' random.
3 is the first game out of the series that felt to me like the creators were actually keeping track of internet culture as they developed the game/wrote dialogue. The rest, while still funny to me, were still outdated the day they released.
Oh yeah, and the story's just fine. Outrage culture is a big thing right now, it'll pass - that and nostalgia goggles for 1 and 2, but that'll never stop being a thing. Case in point, that one early response to your question that was like "it just seems not as high of quality". Yeah, great point - "it's not as good because it's not as good!"
Peeps don't know what they want, yet here they are, playing the game. Trust me, it's just people looking for excuses or "outgrowing" Borderlands' humor and trying to ♥♥♥♥ on the series for not somehow still having that "new" spark to it that they felt when they first played 1 or 2. They don't wanna own up to the very real possibility that maybe they're just tired of Borderlands and nostalgia is all that keeps them enjoying 1 and 2, if they still play those. 3 has no nostalgia, yet has improved on basically everything I found janky and annoying about 1 and 2. That lack of nostalgia is all it takes for the whining to start.
Imagine grabbing a guy who can drain you by touching. You're a siren, not a fkin brawler for Christ sake (oh, hi Amara)
Story is worse, makes less sense than any other bl game, is less intetesting, harder to follow, less inspired...not so much "cringy" than boring and un inspired.
Dlcs can fix it, I even want a second season pass with more dlcs.
simple, gamers aren't good with words.
not that I judge.. (don't quote me please)
The ideas can work but they'd need to go back and rewrite a lot to actually get it to work better as a story.
I mean, prior Borderlands weren't exactly masterfully written either, but they were at least decent. I don't expect much from a game in this series but they really, really dropped the ball with this one.
