Co-op only, worth it?
Is it worth getting the game to only play coop with randoms? I heard there were some good changes for coop play from BL2 to BL3 like level scaling and something like everybody gets his own loot?
I love coop games like Vermintide2, Payday2, Deep Rock Galactic, Warframe but stopped playing Borderlands 2 after around 50 hours because of the loot grabbing/stealing. I want to play with my team not against them once the boss is dead

I heard about a BAD change to coop: there is only matchmaking, and not lobby browser as it used to exist before

Very important thing: is bl3 instanced? think so?

No idea about it, only found this:

Borderlands 3's instanced loot will be optional. In a presentation at the game's official reveal event, Randy Pitchford, CEO of developer Gearbox Studios, confirmed that players will be able to opt out of the system, which prevents co-op partners from swiping your gear.May 1, 2019

Damn why would you make it optional? What is good about being able to steal loot?

To play with randoms? Probably not.

I've always kinda like instanced loot. Mostly because for my friends back in the day it was "oh god is that a bee??" I've always felt like if all loot was shared then it would lose that special value of finally farming for that one gun

Random play was the worst part of Borderlands 2. I only did it once, but io have over 700 hours in the game. I always play Borderlands games for a bout 100 hours before even considering playing co-op and if I do, I will only do it with close friends. Luckily The have crossplay, so I can play with my friends on Epic. Not that I have many over there.

Yea thats why i was hoping it would be better in BL3 so i can just hop in and play with randoms and not having to worry about my loot.

So does anybody know if i can enable this setting for me and join someone else game so i get my own loot or do i have to host the game for it to take effect?
zab Mar 12, 2020 @ 6:11am
I think you have to host.
Also I would not recommend getting the game if you only want to play coop with random people, but if you had fun with bl2 playing that way then i guess you are good to go.
jeffy Mar 12, 2020 @ 6:14am
if you play with randoms noramlly they will rush the game and skip content and dialouge your gunna miss if you take you time in singleplayer

Alright thanks for the replies. Maybe i gonna check it out for solo play but I gotta think about it some more. I guess its just not meant to be like other coop games like i listed.

You mean non instanced loot. Instanced means each player gets their own drops. Loot isn't shared per sey, you just get your own random drops in instanced mode. In non instanced mode everyone sees the same drops and has to fight over them. I much prefer instanced loot so I don't have to worry about anyone ninja looting stuff. Plus it means getting different drops than others.

The good thing is that people can choose between the old loot system and the new one. It’s giving people options. There’s people like me who like the old one better, so I’m glad I can choose to have the system where the guns can be picked up by anyone. Why would I want this? I like the idea of a “loot ninja” in my game, because I enjoy the craziness of playing with friends.
