How To Get Your Saves Back After The Update

Your old saves still exist!
What's happened is they changed the location in the registry where the game saves everything to.

Before I go over the fix, I would just like to mention the following things:
1. They gave absolutely no heads up about this happening, no guide to fix it, nothing.
2. They didn't even bother to make the game check for saves in the old location and move them over to the new location if found.
3. We STILL don't have movement sounds: something the ORIGINAL GAME had and was able to do back in the 90's. Absolutely ridiculous. But hey, at least we now have an informative help menu (even though proper instructions on how to play the game should have been there from release like 99% of games are).
4. Zoombini names are no longer visible outside of Zoombini Isle. Thanks for removing a fun feature for no reason.
5. They thought it would be a good idea to remove the Windowed/Fullscreen and Screen Resolution options for some reason. Although you can still use Alt+Enter to switch to Windowed mode, you can't resize the screen! I tried fiddling around with registry keys to do it manually but nothing seems to work.

Getting Your Saves Back

NOTE: This will erase any progress you currently have and restore the save file you had before the update. You've been warned!
1. Open RegEdit and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\FableVision\Zoombinis
2. Right-click the Zoombinis folder and export it.
3. Open the exported *.reg file in notepad and change "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\FableVision\Zoombinis" to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\TERC\Zoombinis" and then save it.
4. Check and see if the following registry folder exists: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\TERC\Zoombinis
5. If the Zoombinis folder exists, delete it. (Again, this will erase your current progress since the update! Be warned!)
6. Close RegEdit and open the modified *.reg file. It'll ask you if you're sure you want to modify the registry. Just click Ok/Yes.
7. Open the game and enjoy having your old save back!

For people who don't want to edit the registry manually, there's a script that will do it for you at UserTools\ZoombinisMigrateSaveToV2.bat in the game install folder (eg C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Zoombinis\UserTools\ZoombinisMigrateSaveToV2.bat)
