"Well, whoever you are... MAKE ME A PIZZA!"

I was, initially, very happy to find an "updated" version of this beloved game from my childhood. My impressions below only come from the three first puzzles and the first camp stop, you'll see why.
On the positive side, the team behind it did a very decent job making new backgrounds (though with a bit less charm than the original, but that was to be expected), as well as restoring the music and the voice acting. Also, navigating the game overall was smooth, and it worked flawlessly at 2K.
For the not so positive, I prefer the old zoombinis aesthetically speaking, and some old assets do not look good on the new ones (for example, in the Pizza Pass puzzle, the "new" pizza doesn't follow correctly the movements of the Pizza Troll when it carries it). There is also this weird pop up panel every time you launch the game, asking how old you are in order to adapt the content (?). But, the ONE major flaw that deterred me from pushing on, was that the zoombinis now make no noise when they move. Right from the first minute of proper gameplay, it created a glaring emptiness in the soundscape of the game, and was a major disappointment for me. This, combined with some reviews pointing out game breaking bugs much later on, made me ask for a refund.
I went back to the original version, and I much prefer its lack of intro and overlapping/broken sounds to the flaws of this Steam version. Too bad.
Overall though, bugs aside, this is still one of the best puzzle/educational games ever made, well worthy of its Parent's Choice award.
