Zoombinis

How come they abandoned this?
You'd think they'd do the sequels and bring back features of the original like the missing SFX,Help screen where in TLC it read it to you which was very helpful in later puzzles, etc. And the option to choose a lower difficulty level as long as your one up.

For example you completed easy and now are on medium you should be allowed to choose back to easy: Or if your on level 4 you can choose the remaining 3 as Island Odyssey lets you do that. After 3 turns it will bump it back up unless you bump it down again.

They probably abandoned it because it's not a big moneymaker.

That's too bad so many kids want to shoot up gross alien creatures and warp their brains at the very least. What a waste of resources we are throwing.

And there is no violence in this. This game actually teaches (to some degree) actual thinking skills rather then how to react to being shot at and blood all over the screen. Sadly my generation would rather have that.

I don't know how you pulled all that from my comment, i stand by my comment though this is extremely old game in the 90s that most people have no idea about unless you played it in a school computer lab like most of us did.

Younger generations would have no idea about Zoombinis it has nothing to do with blood because the original Doom was out around the same time same as quake and castle Wolfenstien.

And i can tell you i played the ♥♥♥♥ out of Doom as a little kid.

I played it at home actually but never completed it. Dad bought it for me at Reno Nevada when we lived in Quincy as it was hard to get supplies. Dad didn't get Mountain Rescue because of the bad reviews he said were less then stellar. He knew which games were good and bad and I never was dissapointed most of the time.

He kept me away from Reader Rabbit type crap and also kept me away from the violent games due to my anger problems and when I saw Reader Rabbit once at school I was glad he did. I showed Dad it and we both agreed it stunk to high heaven. I am sure it made people HATE computers after that as schools had to promote it due to a deal with Edmark I think it was.

=The schools for the most part had the horrible games except Putt Putt which Dad also got me interested in first but most of the school games were the 'count the fish' type games. How many fish do you see? ONE TWO THREEEEEEEEEEEEE!!

My very first ever one was Putt Putt Goes To The Moon Dos Edition on Windows 95 which we quickly upgraded to 98 Second Edition as soon as it came out.

98SE for some reason was a HELL of a lot more stable then 95 which randomly had BSOD and so did 98 First Edition which we skipped over due to bad reviews at the time a lot of magazine people said it had various hiccups.

We lived in Quincy CA where it was really hard to get stuff but Dad bought it at the Super Wal Mart in Reno which has a movie theater in the back which is also how I discovered Jumanji.

We almost got our computer online in Quincy in 1995 but we were too remote for it to work. Got internet in late 1997 after moving to Oregon via Earthlink: Took 3 whole minutes to download an MP3 song! LOL those were the days.

Hell we visited back in 2004 a friend of ours and they still had dial up from 1999 and we had DSL in Oregon! LOL.

Lots of assumptions in your post. Remember assuming means making an ASS out of you and me as someone once said: ASSUME = Ass out of U and Me.

My favorite Putt Putt is Travel Thru Time due to the logic solving and each time you play objects are in different places and different scenarios which bypasses other scenarios. Characters will say different things depending which playthru your doing and his dog will be missing in one of four possible locations.

What would you think of a Zoombinis 3 Pack? Logical/Mountain and Odyssey to top it off? God I wish there was a 4th unnamed one. Surprised nobody has done their own 'Zoombini' game using the in game algorithms for unique puzzles or remixes of existing ones if nothing else in a different flavor.

That would be incredible! I really wish they would polish up this newer version a little more though, mainly just adding the SFX for the footsteps, without it everything just isn't as vivid, it's weird. But I would really like to see a third one. It's a shame that pretty much all of the edutainment games from Broderbund and The Learning Company are what they are and there's nothing newer like them. They really rewire your brain to do some cool things.

Zoombinis are, and always have been a tool to improve pattern recognition, it's completely unparalleled even as an adult

I am really surprised there wasn't even a beta or a start for a 4th one

There is a third one. It's called Odyssey one thing I like about it is you can sort of choose your difficulty level. If a level is too hard you can go backwards for a breather though to go forwards you have to complete the difficulty setting 3 times without losing a single Zoombini. My favorite levels are the machine level and clock levels.

There's actually some unused narration regarding the map in Odyssey that never made it in the game's final. I found it using GAP (Game Audio Player) the files are in the RSC section with voices for each puzzle. They were originally going to use some kind of token based system but scrapped that. Each level would require a minimum amount of tokens some higher then others.
