ERROR: Could not switch to new screen mode, and can't restore previous one!

Error on launch... Win 11...
Tried "everything"... Compatibility modes, admin, legacy, many resolutions, ...

The furthest I got:
I got to the menu screen when I change my PC resolution to 800x600 which is horrible but game is stuck in windowed mode with 70% of "screen" missing and the mouse pointer not aligned.

Thank you for the fix. I have HP OMEN laptop with AMD integrated card and GF 3060 laptop GPU.
Your fix has allowed me to launch the game in windowed mode with resolution as per your suggestion (1280x720) but I cannot change the to fullscreen, ether it is doesn't do anything or crushes with the same message "ERROR: Could not switch to new screen mode, and can't restore previous one". Deleting videosettings config from my documents helps to restore the game, but doesn't allow me to make any changes in the settings. Tried to add fullscreen - true to the config in game folder but this doesn;t helps.

Have the same problem. Did you find a solution?

Thanks for the hint, VideoSettings.xml was not present and creating one helped to fix the problem.

VideoSettings.xml file in : drive users - username - my documents *(search from there for VideoSettings.xml)
<Attribute name="fullscreen" type="bool" value="true" />
Changing it to
<Attribute name="fullscreen" type="bool" value="false" />

Then it works for me, but windowed...

Is there a fix to be able to play in fullscreen mode (2560x1440) because window mode cuts off on the right side and on the bottom side of my screen?

Thank you Bro this did it for me! To everybody else here: I am running W11 64 Bit.
To bring this workaround to run I suggest the following solution: If there is no file like video settings in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ArcaniA\Data\configuration
copy one of the already existing like the ProcessManager. Now download notepad++ and open the copied file and just overwrite it with:

<Attribute name="resolution_x" type="ulong" value="1280" />
<Attribute name="resolution_y" type="ulong" value="720" />
</AttributeTable>

Don't forget to use your screen resolution values. After that just rename the copied file "VideoSettings" now Arcania will start.

THE REAL ISSUE

It seems Windows 11 24H2 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up another game after recent updates...
I can bet this game was still working fine after 24H2 two months ago, AFAICR.

The issue is quite simple: this game now fails trying to open in fullscreen exclusive, but does work fine in windowed mode.
To force windowed mode you have to edit "%USERPROFILE%\Documents\ArcaniA - Gothic 4\videosettings.xml" changing it to:

	<Attribute name="fullscreen" type="bool" value="false" />

I'm still investing if something can be done to fix it properly and make it work again also in fullscreen... stay tuned

No 3rd party tools for boderless screen required, but you need to apply the guide and use the legacy version of the game as explained (which is good anyway since the game will run MUCH better and smoother).
