So what version of the game do I use now? Is this the final version indeed?
And can you tell me if this final patch fixed the bugs that some characters are stuck somewhere and don't move/react anymore?
I thought I like the game and start playing it but in my first serious game my first daughter stucked somewhere in a square when going to school and after that I never touched the game again. It was that I bought it before the refund period otherwise I was asking a refund because of that bug. I really don't want to be rude but I'm confused now about the version because of your post and I don't want to manual edit files in my Steam directory to prevent auto updates don't work anymore when they decide to repair their game on Steam.
Hope you can help me. Thank you.
SO just to reiterate:
1. Delete local content(or remove the application using windows uninstall, whichever)
2. Install base game(not the betas) FIRST
3. THEN Go to betas and select 4.21 and install.
4.21 will not work properly without the base game installed first.
4.211 will not work without 4.21 installed first.
The problem here, is that steam doesnt let you update from 4.21 to 4.211, and they need to fix that.
At this point the game will run fine. If you want the last 4.211 patch you will have to follow the link I provided above in the original post and manually download and install it from that page, AFTER you do step 1.2.3. You will also need to re-read my OP to see how to install 4.211 properly if you encounter an error trying to install it. I found this obscure info from doing some google searching.
Again, if you installed the game by going straight to the beta version 4.211 you will get majorly bug ridden gameplay. it will run, but it will be so full of bugs you wont want to play it.
I made this topic because steam, nor the developer explains this, and I like many others, made the same error because we were not informed, and found the game to be bugged to hell because we didnt install the game or patches in order.
I wonder what screwed up for Teralitha then to cause those problems.
But I was using 4.21 already so there is no problem using the auto update to 4.211 on Steam?
You didnt understand what I said.
It doesnt do anything.
The game shows "4.21 final" on the main menu whether you have the 4.211 installed or not. I just checked, I have all the read me files you mentioned. However, how many people would think of looking for that? I didnt. Whne I first got the game, I went straight to the beta version 4.211 on steam and the game was bugged to hell and back. I uninstalled that, googled some info about the patches, found out that 4.211 only works if you have 4.21 installed first. So I did that on steam, then i tried to get teh 4.211 beta on stea after getting 4.21 and steam doesnt do it. I had to go to the guild3's new website to find the 4.211 file and manually apply the patch.
Now my game is about 99% bug free. I saw some other posts ad reviews talking about the same game breaking bugs I encountered the first time around.
I created this topic to help them out. if your game works fine then this topic isnt for you.
Strange because I didn't manual update the game and the readme for 4.211 is in my game folder from the Steam install.
*** The Guild 2 - Renaissance
*** Version 4.211 (hotfix for 4.21).
I see, so you didnt install the non beta version first then? Is your game really buggy? I know my experieince with the game was not unique. I know others reported the same bugs I was seeing, which after I did what I prescribed above, got rid of those bugs. Im sure if you installed the beta from steam 4.211 that information would be there. Doesnt mean your game isnt bugged though. If you installed the way I presribed above, your game will be nearly bug free.
I installed the normal version. About a year ago I took the beta version (called latest patch) and since a month now my game is still on the latest patch but now with the text (4.211 content included).
The only bug I experienced in my past games was characters stuck on the map. Was not able to move them anymore and to give them other commands.
I did not experience this bug till now but I did not have time to play.
That bug was actually stop me from playing the game so I hope this is gone now.
Thank you. As a policy for myself I don't update games outside Steam. If you are involved in any way with the game or have contact with the devs ask them to make their Steam game work if it's not the case already. And of course thank you for your help.
