Gunship's Laser Turret not firing on hostiles?

On a run with the gunship, picked up a modded laser turret which took up a vacant slot since I had no other turret installed. Turned it on in an engagement with Okkar and its best contribution to the fight was glaring at an Okkar Drone with seething hatred.

Still in the fight, decided to scrap it and replace it with a Gatling Turret which immediately begun shooting.

The Laser Turret had line of sight on a few targets, was under a km of range, but it didn't want to fire at all. Don't know if it was a me issue or if anyone else is encountering this.

Okay now the Gatling stopped shooting in the next sector. Currently on my second Encounter with one of the Expansion characters, Karlie. It isn't firing at the Outlaws.

Edit: Picked up another Laser Turret, still not firing at enemies.

Edit #2: And it starts shooting in the next sector! Something strange is stirring.

Hopefully final edit: Turret is functioning normally now, not sure what caused it to not fire earlier. Perhaps mission targets being the case? In any case, if the issue can't be replicated, I apologize for any time wasted.
