making it impossible to play with the controller due to a constant skip between the two.

The game automatically switches modes if it detects input from one or the other. Are you sure there's not some dust on something on your mouse's sensor or do you have a macro for your keyboard making it seems like there's input?

Hello! Yes this should be fixed - does this occur ingame or while in a menu? And do you have any Joysticks or HOTAS connected?

Hello! Does this only happen while you're adjusting the keybindings, or constantly afterwards? Are you on Windows 10 64-bit?

I'm having a similar problem where the crosshair constantly wants to be on center, and also i can't invert my axes. More accurately, any time i give any input other than moving the right stick, it resets the crosshair position to center, and none of the check boxes in the control options seem to change anything

Could you try if checking/unchecking the "Use touchpad to move crosshair" options in the controls->controller menu has an effect on this?

This is still one of the firsts posts to come up for me when I also came across this problem. Some things about it may have changed or they may be newer posts. I will post my solution where I can in hopes that it helps some people.

Issue: Mouse/Controller Input switching
My issue was having the game constantly switching back and forth between keyboard/mouse and controller input. While selecting the use touchpad to move crosshair option did solve that issue, it led to other problems. The reticle now behaved irregularly, not following proper movement.

Why:
This may be happening because of the steam recognition for the controller you are using. What do I mean? Use the shift+tab to bring up the steam overlay when in the game. Then hit the controller configuration option in the upper right. This will show what input is actually being given. Often this is selected by steam, what is recommended for the game or some other default. In this case the default might be a game suggested default from Rockfish Games.
This default would likely be effective for those specifically using a steam controller adapted to use keyboard and mouse input. Notice it says "Trackpad as mouse." This is necessary for the steam controller. However, it is not necessary for a playstation/Dualshock or xbox controller as they use analog sticks rather than trackpad.
It breaks both playstation and xbox controllers by interpreting the right analog stick as a mouse input. This is where the multiple problems involving controller configuration come in. You think you are just using a controller, but are in fact using a mouse and controller which leads to the game receiving multiple inputs.

Fix:
If this is your problem, the fix will be simple. Exit the game. Go to the upper right of your steam application and enable the big picture mode. You MUST be in big picture mode to do proper controller configuration within steam. Once you are in big picture mode, take a few moments to get used to it. You may also find that the setting here allows for other default controller configurations to be selected for all steam games, but I will not go into that here.
Once you have selected the game, it will give you a list of options. Select ‘Manage Game’ then ‘Controller Configuration.’ As before you will see the selected controller configuration by Rockfish Games. However, you will now have options to change it. Select ‘Browse Configs’ at the bottom. Notice Rockfish Games was selected because it was recommended for this game. Select ‘Templates’ and choose the ‘Gamepad’ configuration. Notice the description tells you it is made for dual analog controllers.

Steam Controller Users Fix:
If you are a steam controller user and need the trackpad, and find the switch between the two annoying. You can also select ‘Templates’ and try the ‘Keyboard (WASD) and Mouse’ configuration. Your best option may be trying to and have all the controller input actually give keyboard or mouse input. This may or may not work to your satisfaction, and you will have to remember what the buttons do as the interface will always show the keyboard and mouse input.

Other Fixes:
Notice there is a ‘Community’ category. In there you will find many other configurations made by gamers that may also be of interest. Regardless of whether this has been helpful for you, do not forget the options based on this controller configuration and community of steam users is nearly unlimited. Many game control issues can be solved by looking for help here in the community or trying some controller input modding yourself. There are plenty of games where assigning controller input to instead act like mouse or keyboard can be helpful. While dual input is a problem for games often enough, it can work in some games or in certain situations for games.

Goodluck and don’t forget to share your knowledge!

I’ve been dealing with this issue for the last two updates. Never had this problem before, always played on a steam deck with controller and never had a mouse or keyboard attached. I have no clue why it keeps randomly switching in game because it doesn’t happen out of game or in other games.
