if you have to dog fight with 1:1 mouse movement only you'd die and it wouldn't be fun... that's why people play flying games with a joystick.
It seems my wording in the OP was wrong... I undersand that very well (and I actually remember what it's like to play with a joystick since my atari days hehe), but still - to have an option to disable this kind of mouse behavior and have a linear one wouldn't kill anyone, right?
Thank You very much mister for you answer, as well as the reassurance of this forthcomming feature!
FWIW, the reason I asked is that I came back to the game after a few months and noticed the mouse felt incredibly different. Turns out ubuntu/gnome had applied an acceleration map to my mouse. I set it back to flat and it improved a lot. The mouse in-game is still not 100% linear, but it is at least playable once again.
You do realize that aiming with a centered crosshair will be impaired by the turning speed of a particular ship, therefore limiting the ability to pinpoint targets with the mouse? Modern helicopters can turn themselves slowly, while having cannon on a swivel that turn quickly - there's no need to have fixed guns in a futuristic space sim.
