Anyways Thanks for the help Valden and HunterKiller.
Not to add, I'm a pretty good drifter, myself. Even in a battleship. :)
Freelancer is such a laid back game full of fun. Admins are much better, no matter where you go. Hackers are banned instantly and it's an overall, better community. More-so than with any other community I've ever had the chance to be a part of. The modding community is the best too. They ALL will work with you to help you mod the game and there's no court battles of ownership, just give credit where credit is due in the mods readme.file. However, don't steal anybodys work, just ask and they might let you use part of it. Even help you.
Oh yea, let's not forget the Monkey Universe & Disco.
But in terms of the mechanics of the gameplay and everything, it's not really much like freelancer at all.
It seems to be a pretty fun game, but my memories of freelancer (which could be being viewed through the rose tinted glasses of time) are much better.
It was a larger and more alive feeling galaxy than this. This is just jumping from one level to another, much like FTL, until you get to the "end" and then jump to another map with another bunch of levels.
Pretty repetitive really, but that's kind of the catch it seems. You're supposed to die. A lot. As you die you spend your credits on perks and ships, to help you progress further each time.
The story, such as it is, is very basic, and is there just to serve as a reason why you keep coming back after you die, and are going through the same thing over and over.
All in all, if you liked freelancer, there is a good chance you will like this, if you want it for the control of the ship and the combat (although I find this far more challenging than freelancer, since here you are supposed to die).
Basically, mix freelancer controls and combat, with FTL mechanics of progression, and very very challenging for new players.
If that appeals, get it.
Everspace is more like a shooter in space. Your ship moves when you push the move buttons... like in shooter. In Freelancer on the other hand your ship moves when you raise the power to the engines. Like setting it to 80% and your ship moves wih 80% of its speed and you use your mouse for steering your ship. More like in a simulation.
There are other differences regarding control but this is the major one.
It controls like freelancer in that you move the cursor with the mouse, and the ship follows. How difficult is that to understand?
