The savegames are in the .config folder within your home folder. Note that the .config folder is hidden by default.

~/.config/Epic/RSG/Saved/Savegames

I deleted the saved games in the folder above, but can't get the game to re-do the tutorial (I played the tutorial a while back and have completely forgotten it or any context for the gameplay, so I want to do it again). Any tips?

The game might be trying to recover the lost files if they are manually deleted like that (at least when I've wiped my game data manually at the PC location, it tends to repopulate the data anyway), so I would recommend wiping the files from in-game. From the main menu, select OPTIONS, then GAME, then RESET GAME. This will wipe all of your data from in the game, and the next run you start will prompt the tutorial.

Since I've seen a request to look at the tutorial again a few times, I also recorded it and put it on YouTube (using the standard keybindings for mouse/keyboard):

Sweet, thanks for the video.

I did try the RESET GAME function, but all it seemed to do was clear out progress data. It didn't throw me back to the tutorial. I was left flying around arbitrarily with some person talking to me over comms, and I had no idea who they were or why I was flying around in a spaceship in the middle of space ;)

Oh wait, I'm an idiot. I had been using the RESET RUN function all this time--didn't even see the RESET GAME menu item. Thanks again for your tip, it made me check twice.

Could you explain this a bit more? Like, where the backup is, or how this repopulation goes? The game just crashed, and wiped my save (after tens of hours of play). I looked in that location, I have 4 files, all empty and recent (around the time of crash, give or take, not from yesterday). I think it may have reset everything; when I started after the crash, it started in windowed mode.

It crashed just as I was getting insta killed in late sector 6, for the second time. If I can't recover my save ... IDK ...

(Sorry to necro. This came up for 'savegame linux', and has a dev on thread)

Edit - All file under /LinuxNoEditor/ are zeroed out, too. I looked in there a day or two ago to try to change resolution - unsuccessful, but there was stuff there.

Edit - Steam Cloud is off, double checked. A little more forum searching, and I see several threads that seem to be the same issue, from a few years ago. If you couldn't fix it, a warning would have been nice, so we could manually back up our saves.

I guess the backup-save is a buffer that gets re-used (to save space? how big are savefiles?). What if you made an 'uber-backup', write-once, every X hours of play, or something? Write-once, then never touched again by the game (but could be manually swapped for a broken save) ... would that still get erased? I think one of the earlier threads said this could be a UE4 issue, but couldn't point to a known issue upstream, or in other UE4 games.

'bump'

Could I get one of you guys to respond?

It'd be really nice if there was another place to check for a backup or something. I doubt that's the case, sounds like I'll have to start again (and decide whether to tweak my save, and in any case certainly remember to manually back up saves) ... But I was hoping to hear confirmation from a dev / mod before I take the plunge.

Would be pretty pissed to go ahead and start again, only to *then* have someone say 'ooh, you should have checked __ first, but now you overwrote it'.

The other thread I posted on about this, pretty much same info:

(At this point I think that means I've pinged Andi, Hck, and Giraffasaur. I'm sure you guys are busy with E2, but when you have a sec .. please and thanks)
