Is this anything like Colony Wars?

Old PS1 space game? I loved those games; Colony Wars 1, 2, and 3, and this looks very similar with the play-style; but I don't know about storywise? Thank you for any info, I'm trying to decide different games while on sale.

EDIT: I'm guessing this will never get a reply, but those games were magnificent and they never got updated AFAIK; which is a shame.

I played colony wars back in the psx days but i can't remember much about it now tbh. I never finished it and end up giving it to my mate who really loved it and clocked it a few times. Not much help to your question though sorry.

I know this is an old thread but will leave my opinion here for closure as I myself asked this same question. Colony Wars fan here and recently got into Everspace for the same reason, the screenshots looked a lot like CW and I am very nostalgic about it so wanted to give it a shot. In short, no, this is not the same as Colony Wars in the sense that the rogue-lite elements make for a very different experience every time you do a new run. With that said, there are moments that will feel CW-like. I don't want to spoil any surprises. It is a fun and beautiful game, super challenging but rewarding at the same time. If you are a CW fan then you will definitely find a lot to love here, just be prepared to die, a lot, but keep playing and eventually you will be dying less often.
