x52 deadzone
I tried the game for a little bit. It works OK for now, but I had some annoying problems. For example, with the VR headset it was impossible to set bindings for the joystick (keyboard arrows won't work, and the mouse neither).
The biggest problem though is the joystick input. I set the deadzone all the way to 0, and still I have plenty of it in the joystick. I have to move the stick almost a quarter of the way to start detecting the input. This makes it very, VERY difficult and annoying to play with it (practically impossible), because joystick should be a thing of subtle movements. I played elite dangerous with the same setup for extensive hours and I can assure that this is not a problem with me or the hardware.
Also, I can bind controls to one of the hats, but not the other one. And I can't use the mod key to make key combinations (not critical but useful).
If we can fix the axis input, that would suffice to improve the experience a lot. Otherwise I'll have to fallback to another controller, or the mouse+kb, which wouldn't be ideal.

I'll happily help you solve this issue if there's anything I can do

Thanks

Hi!
We're aware of the problems with binding joystick axes in VR, for now I'd recommend that you bind the axes in non-VR mode, you should be able to use them properly in VR then.
Your issue with one of the hats might be caused by our input plugin that currently only supports axis input for analog hat switches, so you might need to bind some axis-based actions to it. We're looking into a solution for that.
The deadzone settings depend a lot on the joystick that is used, try playing with the sensitivity slider as well, and check out the Saitek software for deadzone/sensitivity settings. Of course, Everspace has a higher focus on action gameplay than Elite so our Joystick controls are closer to the Gamepad controls, but we'll look into improving the Joystick experience for Everspace and possible future titles.

I understand. I'll try to play with the settings in and out of the game and see if I can get something decent.
Anyways, I encourage you yo keep working on the joystick compatibility, it helps a lot with inmersion

Thank you for your time.

[NOTE this is old and its fixed, works fine with hotas]

hello,

It apears i agree with the deadzone when using an saitek X52 in everspace.
almoost 30percent up or downwards before it registrates that its moved with the right hand stick.
left right and rotate (so actualy moving it in any direction) gives the game no motion until a sertain degree then the movement kicks in a lot.

've tuned down all the deadzones to 0.01 to 100 percent and even 0 but its way to mutch to fly around this way. (even in the software of my X52) i play a lot of flying sim games with this hotas and would love to play this game aswell especially sinds i Just bought the game today.

im not going to ask for a refund becouse its lovely anyway but im realy hoping this can be tuned.

Thomas.

Hey all, I just got this title.

I have an X52 Pro. I see that it's been a minute since this thread was started - any good setup tips?

well, you could try it out a bit first with hotas, play around with button settings and find your own preferences. Its not a lot of work compare to some games like X4 and elite so not to difficult.

There is an option that if you dislike the way it behaves you can turn it on or off, but i forgot witch one it is. ill check it out in a bit and type it here when i do.

O and ignore my previous post, its outdated sinds it completely fixed.

BTW One more tip sinds you own an X52, I find the lightness of movement on the the right hand Hotas anoyingly light, so i put in a lot of plastic rings to give it way more friction.

You know, you are a really helpful guy, and I didn't say thanks because I was in the middle of a brain bending puzzle...

Thanks for posting above - that's as close to good as I've gotten with this!

I appreciate the attempt, but it still doesn't play well, and I have to take off the headset to do menu things.

I think I'm gonna put this title done.

Haha np i dont expect an thank you from anyone, but its apreciated. its to bad you dont have fun with how it feels comparing to how you would like it to behave. (might it be the vr ? i dont have an vr only an DIY IR face tracker). i hope you have at least fun with the little modding on the hotas.

Try the magnet mod, i did this a few years ago and it works. Its a very easy process, just need to find some suitable magnets for like $5.
