It would be like me saying Diablo would be cool if it were changed into a roguelike, because everything is already there. Just with a checkbox...!
It's far from an easy mod; it's a foundatiomal change to all the ground work. Sure all the assets are there, but it doesn't change the fact that it becomes a completely different game. :P
I just ( personally ) think it would be more enjoyable that way. And I am big fan of roguelike and roguelite games.
Just somehow think it would work awesome as arpg
...
again , my oppinion - man ;)
I actually 100% agree with him. Although I say that without the intention of detracting from how much I already enjoy this game as a rougelike.
I could equally if not more enjoy the game (we'll never truely know) if it was more ARPG. I'd still lean towards a more hardcore set of fundamentals towards loss of gear or credits/ whatnot~ but having some sort of persistant relatively un-instanced world. Or a world in which paths are unlocked via objectives would see much welcome.
I really enjoy this game a lot, but to tell the truth, as much as I enjoy it everytime I get to the "choose which warp path to take" page I sort of feel slightly deflated by it. As soon as I warp in it's game on and i'm loving everything about being in the zones, just the zone selection itself (especially after you completely unlock scannig) kind of takes away from something.... although i'm struggling to pinpoint what exactly haha
It would be like saying, "Man I really like chess but it would be better if it were a card game." And to me, that just tells me you like card games more than board games. Again, nothing wrong with that, it's just not what the board game is.
Sounds like you're looking for more options in the generation of a run, not necessarily it being tied to a different genre. I can agree with this; would love more options.
That would be largely welcomed~ I know there is varying forms of luck and instances when warping into zones. But once scanning is unlocked and after using it for a few runs you already know what you're getting when you select a warp target.
If you had to make your way across the universe or a much larger map where navigation and huge vast zones would go a long way in this game. Possibly not always being killed but kidnapped and taken back a few stages or put in a challenging instance.
Anyone that plays this game over 20 hours does so because it plays beautifully and they really love space battles. Reluctantly though I have to say it's not through the games depth or surprises after the intial ones that you can count on your fingers.
I also wanted to add another item that keeps people coming back for more, at least me: I speak to this as a roguelike enthusiast, trying to complete Hard mode Daredevil runs, wonky combination Enhancement runs and the elusive one-and-done run, where you complete the game on the very first run.
With over 250 hours I'm still finding new ways for the game to entertain and challenge my abilities, but I wouldn't mind more types of ways to engage with the game and a larger variety of enemies/challenges.
I'm really excited bout the Hardcore Mode coming out in the next couple months, as well as the paid DLC launching later this year that will include new ships, gear, locations and story content.
