Gothic 2: Gold - Steam vs GoG
Hello all,

After many many years I have decided to reply Gothic 2: Gold edition.
I know that there are tons of patches, updates etc released. So my question is:

1. Which version is more complete in terms of installed patches. Steam or GOG? I've both of them.
2. Do we have a complete guide on the most optimal patches that need to be installed and how to do that?

I am not talking about mods that alter the game in any way. Only patches that fix bugs, crashes and graphics. Maybe some small quality of life improvement as well.

1. GOG version is a convoluted mess because they have their own self-made patches applied, which is making it impossible to apply any other patches. Not sure if they even have the mod launcher. Steam version comes with System Pack pre-installed and there are plenty of Workshop mods to browse and subscribe with one click.
2. Union is all you need, actually. Lots of technical fixes and plugins support. I would also recommend Script Patch (EN and RU languages only) and Classic mod (disables the addon, if you need that). Also the gamepad plugin is very useful, if you have one.

First of all, thank you so much for the reply.

So the system pack that is already pre-installed, does it contain all the community patches that were released throughout the years? I remember we had to manually install so many patches to fix various bugs and polish the game?

Yes, Steam version should work out of the box now.
And Union is like System Pack 2.0 from the same developers, with even more fixes and advanced plugins support.

Does the patched steam Version with the System Pack causes issues if you Start it through spine together with Union and the 3dx11 renderer? I myself have no issue but I had gothic 2and spine with Union installed before the System Pack Patch got integrated into g2. My friend just installed gothic 2. Installed spine, Union and the dx11 renderer clockwork through spine and while my game launches with the same configuration without a problem (it even says launching with union) the game of my friend is stuck on a infinite starting game screen (that little night of the raven banner on your desktop with it saying loading and not launching with union) someone known what might be the cause of it?

I didn't install the classic mode cause I wanted to play the expansion, but according to it's description, it indeed removes the NotR.

GOG version works, I have it.
It has a weird patch 2.7, but you can just install Primary Patch and then Union mod, and then it works.
Spine also works well with GOG.
